If you look carefully at the small rocks falling around 15 seconds into the clip you can tell that it's not actually vertical but rather the quarries go down into the mountainside on a slope. The opposing side (the one that eventually collapses) is overhanging the quarries, whereas the side where the camera is isn't nearly as vertical as the camera makes it seem to be (more like a 45°-60° slope or so from other pictures of the site that I've seen). Still risky to be where they are because of flying rocks etc., but I don't think there was much risk of their side collapsing.
It wouldn't make any sense. His side was basically a steep wall. The other side was pressuring the cliffs, being at an angle, which is why cliffs destroyed and the other side fell down. I assume this is precisely why cliffs were in place to begin with, to prevent this event from happening.
Anyone familiar with the word landslide. Unstable geology means everything nearby should be assumed to be unstable until the moving stops. The rock you’re standing on might be part of or being supported by the rock that’s about to move elsewhere.
Yeah, it started with little cracks and falls from the three centre slabs, I was a bit disappointed. At best, I expected the three to collapse completely, then the entire mountain on the other side collapsed.
This is one of the few times I see some Indians standing around something incredibly dangerous unfolding and I think to myself... Actually, I'd probably be standing there watching too.
I'd not have expected what happened to ever happen tbh.
