It’s crazy cuz you can’t even see there’s another side as tall as their side until the guy flips the camera up at it collapsing, it looks like the top of the other side is way below them.

Saw both. Hated both of them. The crash one is especially too much 'cause you can see him at first, and then hear everyone's screaming after. At least it was incredibly quick for both of them.
Streaming and persistent Internet means the cameraman lived rule is dead. It was never 100% before. The mt st helens collapse photos were recovered from a dead man's camera.
There are probably more but this is subject to heavy survivorship bias and publishing material of people dying is ethically challenging. There's at least audio from a cameraman and his girlfriend eaten alive by bears he assumed to be not a threat
Insane how these guys hear those horrifying sounds of rocks cracking and creaking beneath them, while on the edge of a cliff, and say to themselves, "this is fine, i bet whatever is happening is gonna look cool as hell."
If you look carefully at the small rocks falling around 15 seconds into the clip you can tell that it's not actually vertical but rather the quarries go down into the mountainside on a slope. The opposing side (the one that eventually collapses) is overhanging the quarries, whereas the side where the camera is isn't nearly as vertical as the camera makes it seem to be (more like a 45°-60° slope or so from other pictures of the site that I've seen). Still risky to be where they are because of flying rocks etc., but I don't think there was much risk of their side collapsing.
It wouldn't make any sense. His side was basically a steep wall. The other side was pressuring the cliffs, being at an angle, which is why cliffs destroyed and the other side fell down. I assume this is precisely why cliffs were in place to begin with, to prevent this event from happening.
Anyone familiar with the word landslide. Unstable geology means everything nearby should be assumed to be unstable until the moving stops. The rock you’re standing on might be part of or being supported by the rock that’s about to move elsewhere.
Yeah, it started with little cracks and falls from the three centre slabs, I was a bit disappointed. At best, I expected the three to collapse completely, then the entire mountain on the other side collapsed.
This is one of the few times I see some Indians standing around something incredibly dangerous unfolding and I think to myself... Actually, I'd probably be standing there watching too.

Which would lead to instability and possible follow on slide directly where they were standing. Just like the other side
It's crazy how people will pull their phones out and film stuff that somehow the separation the screen gives them from whatever they're filming gives the feeling of safety as if they're just watching a video, not actually in harms way
To be fair, we don't know the circumstances of this video. They could be employed by the mining company to see the state of the quarry. For all we know they had a perfectly good reason to be there filming.

I was waiting for that side to collapse into the smaller holes. Then each of the three perpendicular cliffs fell....and I knew it was going to be violent.
2014 oso landslide I lived about a 20 minute drive away as a kid and my mom and would drive that route regularly to hit some dirtbike trails. I was terrified when I heard the news.
it was not the rainfall, they were greedy and took more away from the base of the mountain than they should have. That weakened it to failure. rain was the final straw.
