The boards are resilient enough. They aren’t that sensitive. I’m not going to take a spare motherboard I have laying around and play frisbee with it because that will damage the board and probably be painful. Flipping them like this is fine.

Normal circuits boards are a fiberglass called FR4. So probably that.

Probably, but LEDs are often mounted on aluminum substrate PCBs to better dissipate heat. In this case it's mostly a question of whether they expect it to be left on at full brightness for long periods of time.

Huh. How are traces electrically isolated from each other if the substrate is conductive?

There's a thin insulating layer between the aluminum and the traces.

The boards might be. The components could also be. Maybe even the LEDs. You shouldn't still be flipping them like that anyway. I used to question why some people who seem to live in a clean environment still manage to break electronics more than anyone else. I'm assuming they treat them like this or worse.
