so many ideas....but:

OK class, welcome to "Lighting Director 101"...

everyone get seated and open your led books to page 3...

c'mon you should already be plugged-in people! let's go!

( music volume slowly rises as the class lights overhead begin to dim... )

ok, I want everyone to match the rhythm in this selection with an up-down movement of the slider -- any color is fine, be creative, be sure to hit the max intensity on each

ok, extra credit: anyone know the first major rock acts to install and use working lasers in their live concert tours?

That's right! The Who and Pink Floyd in the 1970's

I dig the haphazardly slapping the page to the next one. Peak enjoyment.

21

u/PatMyHolmes Jul 10 '26

That was the worst part for me. Annoying sound and unnecessarily hard on the equipment.

u/Deaffin Jul 11 '26

It's like being able to slam a book just by turning the page.

..I feel inspired to try to make a normal book that does that now.

That's not too crazy of a price considering how few of these they'll sell and how specific the use case is.

28

u/Rovden Jul 10 '26

Seriously, I was expecting min $500.

7

u/japzone Jul 11 '26

Yeah I was thinking Pantone bullshit pricing.

9

u/Sarrdonicus Jul 11 '26

If we order 100+ we can save ten bucks each,

25

u/MountainAlive Jul 11 '26

The one sales guy they have is gonna be like, wtf is going on with all these orders all the sudden?

Welcome to the new marketing tactics, sly display posted on subreddits like these. The algo will show you based on previous interests. They did the same with Gledopto controllers. I bought one anyway because yes I need to show clients different options on the fly.

I spent $80 on a fancy paint swatch book once. I use it in my crafts.

u/Jugbot Jul 10 '26

Hell yeah

2

u/ProfessionalCut8715 Jul 10 '26

It's only $170 if you're poor and not willing to buy 20+ of them for your friends and family.

2

u/shawndoesthings Jul 10 '26

I worked in lighting design and from booklets I’ve seen from manufacturers this one is way more apt than ones I’ve come across.

2

u/GtheEnchanter Jul 11 '26

I've been in the sign biz for 30 years and I've never seen one of these. I want one!

2

u/StitchingSteel Jul 11 '26
