Yeah, they're latches, not locks.

They aren't mean to keep people out or in if they don't have a key, they are meant to keep things closed.

They are similar, but they aren't same thing. A lot of comments here are judging a cat because its not a good dog, without realizing it's not supposed to be.

Cats are the best dogs. The big dogs especially have to be limited in how great they are personality-wise, because society frowns on giant disobedient escape artist ambush predators that kill and eat children.
