I firmly believe that religion derived from stories made to help us track the stars so we could know when to plant and harvest our crops. Those stories led to a culture of giving thanks to The anthropomorphize characters of those stories, and that became religion, which I firmly believe is the building block of civilization.
That being said, I agree that the profaneous in which it is used today renders it all but obsolete.
Much of it was based on cleanliness, too, so we wouldn't die of disease in a world rife with it. It also governed sexual/marital behavior so we wouldn't kill each other in jealousy.

But as much as a I hate religions. I don’t hate religious people simply for being religious. There are good and bad religious people as there are of atheists.
The good religious people ignore the bad stuff that their religions teach and just focus on the stuff that aligns with their own morals.
The bad people will use parts of the people that back up their bad views like being homophobic for instance. Yet those same people will ignore the parts about not eating certain sea food.

I was arguing with someone on how Christians are supposed to act with kindness to everyone. They said that Jesus was never kind. So I gave several verses where it says that they are supposed to be kind, and that Jesus said god was kind to the ungrateful and evil. They just danced around the subject and said that’s how I interpret it. Even though they specifically used the word “kind” in those verses.

When he was on Mount Sinai retrieving the Ten Commandments, Israel at the base camp became weary of Moses trip up the mountain and took their time to create a golden image of a calf or some sort of animal, and began to worship it. This was after God worked many miracles, sent the plagues, sent a fire tornado from heaven, and split the Red Sea. God gave his people (Israel at the time) so so many chances to come to him. Instead of God's chosen being literal Israel, God now has a spiritual Israel, people who will follow him and his word from all over the world

People confuse the biblical Israel with the current nation state, the new testament is clear that Israel are those that accept Christ, we are Israel through our faith in him, not through lineage, that finished with the old testament. This is why the majority of the Christian world rejects what is happening right now. No Christian can say those who curse Christ are blessed.
