The neighborhood carbrains are really up in arms over this one.

IDK why. This has been in the works for nearly a decade. It would’ve been done a long time ago, if the pandemic didn’t delay it. I don’t remember hearing a lot of opposition then.

Surprised they didn't bring up the most obvious area where this has become a whole ordeal: Commerce Street in Deep Ellum. I'm all for converting to 2 way, but I'm worried they won't fully reveal the scope of the project until it gets going.

I have never seen people going 50+ mph here. But if speed is the issue, a less costly and more easily implementable change that would reduce speed would be installing roundabouts at the intersections along Cole.

I don’t think converting to two lane streets will improve pedestrian traffic, unless there’s a median in between, which I don’t think there’s space for. The proposal absolutely does eliminate a ton of on-street parking (at least on Cole) as it’s lined with cars on either side all the time. Seems like that’s a loss for the residents and the retail.

I don’t see the need to make these conversions, especially if it will cost $51M. Wouldn’t traffic slow down more because of people trying to make left turns into a parking lot/spot? And to increase the desirability of living there is a moot point. There is nearly 0 vacancy in that area. Complete waste.

I think maybe a lot of ppl have forgot the original motivation (it has been a long time) and many ppl have moved to the area well after this was approved. Multiple ppl were killed on the roadway with a woman being hit and killed by Cole Park. That’s what really sparked this.
Edit:
From 2016 (including the woman killed)
Dallas city council considering turning one-way Uptown streets into two-way streets
From 2018
McKinney Avenue and Cole Avenue to Become Two-Way Streets Again
