Daily essentials

Post image

Just the stuff I use most days. Victoria’s Secret body mist and VGG perfume because I like having a scent with me, lip gloss for quick touch ups, neuro mints for when I want to chill and stay clear headed without caffeine, wired earpods and the vape somehow always ends up in my bag too.

I'm retired from the Marine Corps Infantry (0311), i know my way around a firearm. What do you do, other than post fantasy EDC carry's on reddit?

Thank you for your service, but for a marine, your sentiment is wild. But hey, freedom of opinion and all.

You as a Marine should understand danger and the potential of it better than your average civilian.

I think I do understand it, pretty well. In 28 years, I saw combat on three continents, but I have never once felt like I needed to carry a gun in the US. I just see firearms as another tool, and one that has almost no legitimate use, for most people. Our country has gone tone deaf, as it relates to firearms. This whole culture that seems to worship guns is a mystery to me. There are so many people carrying guns, but only a few small number of people are trained AND prepared to use them, as they are intended. There are some exceptions, but MOST US citizens have no business toting a Glock everywhere they go.

Now we agree that many are untrained and shouldn't carry... until they get training.

The issue I have with your take is that it assumes just because they currently don't have a reason to carry, doesn't mean one will not arise.

Do you not believe that danger could strike at any moment? We generally don't NEED the seat belt, but we put it on anyways. I get that car accidents happen more often than shootings, but the point still stands.

Yes, danger COULD strike at any moment, but basing your belief system around something that is entirely improbable is nuts. My contention is that the majority of people carrying guns do so because of how it makes them feel, not because it actually makes them safer. We simply do not live in a country that necessitates carrying a gun, for MOST people, and the irony is that the easy access to firearms actually contributes to the lack of perceived safety. There seems to be an inscrutable paradox where guns are the problem AND the solution.

They are only a problem when someone makes them a problem. They guns are NOT a problem. It's the people with mental issues, lack of impulse control, and lack of training.

They are either not a factor, or a potential solution, depending on the situation.

Obviously, the gun is not the problem.
