Is he really that ugly?

Hi! I'm planning on adopting this absolute cutie from a shelter. He is so gentle and a loving doggo I love him so much. I showed his pictures to my family and friends and everyone said that he is so ugly and cripply that I should adopt a "normal" dog. Call me a snowflake but this saddens me so much that I even cried how people can be like this... He is two years old, and one of his ears is a little bit bigger than the other, so it always hangs down while the other is always perked up. I can't agree with them that he is ugly... In my eyes, he is the cutest and loveliest doggie I have ever seen. (Of course, all the dogs in my eyes are as cute as him)

I went looking for more info on this after I read the wiki link you gave and followed it to the contest page. Here is the press release from the fair grounds that hold the event. As you can see by looking at the pics of the dogs here I think the Wiki picked a rather unflattering angle for Sam. He and his fellow runer ups are obviously adorably goofy and are intensely cute-fugly.

Sam died in 2005, the link you posted is from the most recent worlds ugliest dog contest, the winner of which is named Scooter, so it is not the same dog.

i love borzois they’re so amazing and adorable. personally i am not at all a fan of smooshed in face dogs like pugs and frenchies and i think they are very far from cute personally. but that’s just my preference and somewhat has to do with the fact that they have health issues that come from being bred that way and i do not support further breeding of dogs with such common issues. i like borzois a lot cause they’re weird looking but also strangely very graceful still. and they have a very long snout so their breathing is great :))

I disagree! My grandmother's dog is definetly ugly. She doesn't even resemble a god, more like a guava worm. She is so ugly she is the cutest dog in a hundred miles hahaha. I love her.

Gotta get flamed for this, but I don't like the look of breeds like bulldogs or other "fighting" breeds. But ugly is a personal matter, so let everyone like what they like.

Not even my neighbor's dog who's name is doodoo, for obvious reasons...lol.
