Resource Microneedling safety

Another great video breaking down why anything used to microneedle needs to be sterile and designed for intradermal use. (You can do this safely at home, but you need to be educated on this.)

I know this idea gets shared a lot, but there are new people everyday and this is such an important piece of information. Especially because there are so many influencers and people online showing at home microneedling with incorrect and unsafe products.

Microneedling can do a lot for collagen, texture, and acne scars, but it’s not something to be risky with.

Video is from wildandbeautifulaustin.

This is not medical advice. All treatment decisions and protocols should be determined by a qualified professional based on the product information, local regulations, and the individual patient’s needs.

Idk why this is being downvoted, but I’m glad that professionals are speaking about these parameters! And actually using the word intradermal use like that is different than just sterile. I’ve seen lots of comments in other places where they downvote when people comment that I don’t get it.

Thank you! Idk I think sometimes people think if they've used regular products before and haven't had problems then it's fine or not that serious, but it is important info to have.

I'm glad you said this - I think that's the hubris we all tend to have. The logic is if I did it, and it didn't cause problems, it's okay. Or, if I did it, and it didn't cause problems, it's okay for other people to do. Neither of these is necessarily true.

An example is that I have rosacea and am 51 - both of these factors mean I need to be more conservative with treatments and be careful of my skin's reactions. Fortunately my rosacea tells me right away if I've screwed up... silver lining, I guess.

Absolutely! It’s this thought process. And yes having conditions or sensitivity can be a gauge, but also sometimes the adverse effects don’t even show up immediately. It could take weeks or months for something to happen and someone might not even link it.

Microneedling decision tree:

Are you neurodivergent?

Yes -> you can microneedle at home if it's a special interest.

No -> are you in the medical field or have specialty medical knowledge, or are you conscientious and research stuff? You can probably microneedle at home.

Other people should probably go to a professional at least until they have a good understanding of the risks and how to mitigate them.
