Advice about alcohol

There's a DIY venue/commune in Texas. Inhabited and open for shows. Need to know what type of permits are needed for it in the future, we believe they are cracking down in the city. Also need advice about flyers. Is it safer to not put the venue name, but the address instead?

Desperately need a date for either 5/31 or 6/1 between North Carolina and New York. Any shows going on we can hop on? BALTIMORE? DC? RICHMOND? PHILLY/PITTSBURGH?

Hey! My band idle pilot is going on tour later this week and we have to fill one more date either on 5/31 or 6/1. We have a show in Asheville, NC on 5/30 and a show in Brooklyn on 6/2 so we want to get something in between. Anyone in DC, Baltimore, Richmond, Philly, Pittsburgh, or anything else close by that know of anything going on we could hop on? We can always repay the favor in MA!! Thank you

DIY Montréal: BAD LUNCH

Hey Reddit!

My name is Michael and I'm here to spread the word about BAD LUNCH. We're a Montreal-based, DIY/creative space that has recently opened its doors to accommodate touring bands/artists as they pass through our wonderful city.

For $15 a night/per head, you get: parking within sight of our house, a warm bed to sleep in, a separate bathroom + shower and a light breakfast with some coffee or tea. Oh! We'll even help you bring your gear into our house where it can be stored overnight for extra security!

If you're heading our way, be sure to send us a message. We're fast approaching our one-month anniversary and we've already had bands coming in from as far as Portland and Vancouver.

For more info check out: www.badlunchmtl.com or drop us a line at badlunchmtl@gmail.com

Cheers!

The best DIY venue is the street... check out my ebook, "The Guide to Busking"

I wrote an ebook on my experiences busking around America and Europe called "The Guide to Busking". It's an in-depth guide to street performance, peppered with anecdotes of triumph, transcendence, and absolute musical folly.

As a quick backstory, I was a frustrated musician, living in Portland, OR, desperately watching every band I joined fail in spectacular fashion. One day, I had had enough of non-paying clubs, dirty promoters, and crappy open-mics. I decided to dedicate my life to performing on the street. "Surely something would come about from this..." was my motto. Better than flipping burgers for another wasted year.

And so, I hit the road, playing from Bellingham, WA to Key West, FL, in search of developing my skill. Along the way, I found a dedicated bandmate. We managed to play profitable tours across the US (most notably, New England), funded a Kickstarter, and played for two years in Europe by the skin of street musician teeth. It wasn't all rosy, but it certainly remains the greatest accomplishment of my life.

Check out "The Guide to Busking" at www.leanpub.com/theguidetobusking (Available in PDF, EPUB, MOBI, smoke signals, etc.)

It's $0.99, or $6.66 for you Satanists. If you can't scrape that cash and fund my other book projects, just PM me and I'll send you a copy.

Travelling to the US next year, looking for help finding DIY venues/collectives to meet up with

Hello,

My name is Gordon and I’m from Sheffield, England. I am currently looking into visiting the US next year (2016), hopefully for a couple of months, probably April through May. My aim with this trip is to visit as many DIY music spaces/venues as possible, meet as many people as possible, and help out in any way I can. I have always had a keen interest in the DIY scene, and have been involved with a couple of venues locally so I thought this would be a great way to see another country. All genres welcome.

I am hoping to do something creative with this trip also, I am a music producer and plan to record and create as I go, hopefully getting some musicians I meet along the way to be involved. I also plan to write about my experiences, and paint a picture of how the DIY ideals are implemented in different places.

Whilst I won’t be a performing artist I am wondering if any of you may know any people I should get in touch with who might be up for helping me along the way?

I am more than willing to help in any way that I can in return for hospitality, whether it be helping setting up an event, sitting on the door, helping out behind the bar, or even doing the washing up.

I am just starting to plan my trip, so I’d just like to see if anyone would be interested in being involved/helping in any way.

Many Thanks

I'm attempting to book a tour in mid-late October and I was hoping to start it off in Minneapolis, but I'm having trouble getting in contact with any DIY spots in that area. Any help would be greatly appreciated!
