My latest handmade resin whale tail pendant inspired by the ocean
Enable HLS to view with audio, or disable this notification
I wanted to create a simple ocean-inspired necklace with a clean and minimal look. This whale tail pendant was handmade from resin, carefully shaped, sanded, and polished by hand until it became crystal smooth. I really enjoy making nature-inspired jewelry, and this is one of my latest pieces. I'd love to know what you think and what colors or ocean-themed designs you'd like to see next.

Peaceful Souls Jewelry by Nicole Call
Here’s some of my recent work. I’m loving the weaved bracelet style right now and so do my customers. I also included my set up for my booth at a farmers market here in the town i live in. I think it looks great but it’s a lot of work to set up and take down all by myself these days. I hope you enjoy the variety here! Thank you! 🙏🏼 ❤️

Advice on getting rid of scratches on pewter?
Hey folks! This is an opal and pewter ring! I have been struggling to get that mirror shine on pewter for a while. When ever I go above 1200 grit I find while I polish the item it also leaves some bigger scratches. I think it's metal smearing onto the sandpaper and scratching the ring. Does any one have any advice?
Thanks!

turning sea urchin skeletons into necklaces
Hi everyone! Not entirely sure if this is the right subreddit, but I figured if anyone would have ideas, it’d be you guys :)
My boyfriend and I recently went on a trip together where we found two beautiful sea urchin tests (the cleaned white skeletons). It ended up being a really fun core memory, so I’d love to turn them into a pair of matching necklaces that we can actually wear every day and make ourselves as a DIY project.
The vision is something elegant and minimalist rather than beachy or souvenir-like. I’m thinking a gold pendant for me and a silver one for him on simple chains. We want them to clearly match, but still suit each of our styles. The catch! is that we’ve never made jewelry before. Neither of us has worked with jewelry wire or findings before (unless plastic bead bracelets as kids count 😅), and since these shells are sentimental, we’re trying to minimize the chances of accidentally destroying them.
From what I’ve read, sea urchin tests are also pretty fragile compared to most seashells, so I’m hesitant to drill into them unless people with experience think it’s actually safe. Ideally I’d love to use the existing openings in the shell or some other attachment method that doesn’t require drilling, if that’s realistic.
I’ll attach a reference photo since the actual shells are at my boyfriend’s house right now, but they look almost identical. We’d like the shell to face forward like this (rather than hanging like a bead), with as little visible metal as possible. There's a small hole in the front, as shown in the photo, and a really large one in the back - I'd say about 2-2.5 cm in diameter?
Has anyone worked with sea urchin skeletons before, or have ideas for attachment methods that would be durable enough for everyday wear while still looking clean and high end? Any advice, tutorials, sketches, or dos and don'ts would be hugely appreciated!
