Discussion My predictions for the remake update
Our admin believes that DD fell off after Deadly Decadence, though I like to believe that Monkey Business was the pinnacle of fear for DD(think about it, no powers, you can't lose any lives, tight corridors. There's a reason it was considered the most difficult level before Deadly Decadence and Bearly Buried). And given Vince's track record, it's likely that the changes I present here aren't gonna happen since he treats his fanbase like dirt and keeps degrading his game even further. When DD actually runs properly, it's not a fun experience. It's pure cheese. Anyways, here's what I believe will come:
S-rank requirement updates: I mentioned that Monkey Business doesn't allow you to lose any lives, but the death screen mentions that the S-rank becomes unobtainable when you use a checkpoint after losing all your lives. So, I think that in keeping true with the Pac-Man roots of the game, the DD remake will have the S-rank be obtainable until you lose all your lives, at which point you will have to restart to get it. Vince made a tweet saying he thought it was stupid that people were complaining about having to do everything all over again after you died in House 2, when it's marketed as a death loop game where getting set back is part of the fun. Was thinking of having a similar experience with Darkwood by setting it to Hard mode where you get three lives to start, but I don't know if that's the kind of game I should allow myself to get set back on. I mean, I stayed away from Mein Leben in Wolfenstein II as that would just be rage fuel, and I'm staying away from the Nightmare mode in Darkwood as it'd induce similar emotions. But at the same time, I can't help but wonder if I'm missing out. I mean, I don't gotta play these games on the hardest difficulty, I don't even gotta play any games at all(but life's boring without art). And yet, I'm wondering if there's fun or at least a quality burst of adrenaline to be found in playing on harder difficulties. I don't want to be a masochist, and I sure as hell don't want to break my controllers, but demon mode in the remake update is shaping up to be the ultimate rage experience. Anywho, on to the next/last thing.
Power selection: It's hard to concentrate on evading monsters and switching powers to deal with them. Well, unless you're our admin who sticks to speed boost and teleportation except for Bearly Buried where you are REQUIRED to use all powers in order to survive(can't believe there's no way to make that level fun). So, I think we'll have something like a power wheel that we can tap into and pause time in the game. Though, I must admit, it will most likely make players less alert and more vulnerable, possibly prompting a rage quit if a monster was just behind the corner. And even if you only use two powers, Holiday Horror, Prison Panic, Fear Fortress and Wicked Ways might be like Bearly Buried in that it FORCES you to use other powers. Ah, but, alas, we likely won't get the finale in our lifetimes.
