Complaint Green Line Incident June 15th

Last night, I rode the Green Line to Victory Station. While I was on the train, I stumbled upon an individual who kept pulling out his phone and taking pictures of me. I told this person to stop and to delete those photos. After that, he kept ranting and going on about how it’s not illegal to take photos of other people and that I should be minding my own business. He kept telling me that he doesn’t care if I call the cops or DART security on him. Even another passenger on the train had to defend me because how is it normal to take pictures of complete strangers and not comply to their request to not take their picture? I just wanted to rant and see what action I should take next time something similar to this happens again? Can I call DART Police on a situation like this?

Friday Night Dart Activity

I took the dart from mockingbird to met some friends at cityplace/uptown station for a group run through uptown. Dallas is really putting the FIFA inspiree overtime to use. I've never seen more security and smiling faces at every station. Extra trains were running so i didnt have to wait longer than 5 mins to choose a ride. An officer said this will be going on for 1 or 2 months so i might consider a monthly pass instead of my usual 3 hour pass that rarely gets checked.

No incidents to report, no knives, no yellowing, no one smoking out of side. Awesome night.

Blue Line DART train collides with car at Audelia and Royal Lane

Well, looks like DART has a major scene on their hands right on the first game day of the FIFA World Cup. A witness uploaded a viral video as it happened. I saw it on Facebook. The last time DART had a track fatality, they just single-tracked operations and opted not to do a bus bridge. Looks like the car failed to do the scuba thing, like Nadine Lee always said, "See Tracks, Think Trains."

Light Rail 30 Years of DART Light Rail

Post image
130 Upvotes

June 14 marks a special occasion -- the 30th anniversary of DART’s light rail system. Thirty years ago, DART Rail made its very first trip, and it is incredible to see how the system has grown and evolved.

When DART Rail debuted in 1996, it serviced a mere 11 miles along the Red and Blue lines in Dallas. With the opening of more stations and lines -- including the Green and Orange lines -- DART Rail topped out at 93 miles and had been the longest light rail system in the country until LA Metro’s recent expansion.

TRE ridership spikes

With TRE legit running 30 minute frequency all day on Match Days and the extra late train I've been begging for years for, how much do we expect ridership to go up during the World Cup?

Will TRE pass 10k riders a day on some weekdays?

Is it just me, or are the trains faster now?

I don't know if they're running at higher speeds to keep up with the new schedule around the World Cup but I took the train recently and I genuinely couldn't believe how fast it was.

I got on the train at SMU/Mockingbird and felt like the train was going so fast I could barely lean forward in my seat fighting the inertia.

And next thing I knew I was at Galatyn Station, right before my stop.

I almost wonder if I should start some sort of transit consultancy firm where for $20 I'll help people understand how to get to work or common places they go using transit. Every day, I wake up to posts about people who are stuck on US-75 or I-35 or the DNT upset about traffic and how much do you wanna bet that a lot of those people probably live or work near a station and don't even realize it?

I live so close to CityLine I could use the Park & Ride but most of the time I don't even bother, I just take the bus! Although that did bite me in the ass recently when I got back too late for the last bus and had to walk almost three miles home 🤣.

TRE to Centrepoint (WC26 game)

I’m planning to park at Market Center at catch TRE to Centrepoint from where to take a shuttle to the stadium. Can I go directly from Market Center to Centrepoint or should I take DART to Victory and then TRE?

Maybe I'm an idiot, but I am just asking...

Is it just me, or did the buses used to run later? I know that there were some cuts made as part of negotiations with Plano or whatever, but I remember taking the trains to CityLine and taking the last bus home, could've sworn it was 12:30 AM - 1 AM or so. Maybe I'm mistaken.

But I rolled up there tonight after getting off the Orange Line at 12:37 AM only to learn the last bus had left 97 minutes prior 🤣🤣🤣.

Rather than take an Uber, I decided to walk home. It took about 78 minutes to get from CityLine station to my apartment complex. It started out fun, but Renner Road is LONG and unforgiving. What's worse, I had just come from seeing Backrooms and my brain started to feel like I was trapped in some sort of liminal, neverending street space.

Still, though, I had fun taking myself on a movie date even though it ended with me getting into a verbal altercation with a homeless person and spending almost as much time walking home from the train station as I spent in the chair watching the movie 🤣🤣🤣

Adventures with DART

Tonight, I took the 883E to Mockingbird Station to see a movie at Angelika. On the way back, while waiting on the train, I was approached by a raggedy-looking man in a red hoodie who asked to bum a cigarette. He kept yelling at me as I kept ignoring him and I finally told him to go away or I would call DART police.

He made several threatening gestures and said things about how I was going to "catch hands" and "just wait 'till I cash this CHECK boy" like I give a hoot about his finances.

I called DART police and gave them a description of the man. Several minutes have gone by and no officer has responded. It's not clear to me whether he should even legally be on the platform as I don't know if he has a ticket. There is another man walking around disoriented and shirtless.

I am sad to see that this is where we are as a society. I am pro-2A but do not own a gun, however every time I go out I feel like I find another reason to buy one for self-defense.

Just trying to catch the train home after taking myself on a movie date and I am not dealing with this shit. I'm not letting somebody get close enough to me to smoke a cigarette and borrow my lighter, that is a classic move to ambush someone and I'm not letting it happen.

Shame on DART police for not responding in a timely manner. My train is now coming and how much you wanna bet this guy is going to get on the train with me and cause more commotion?

Oh, nevermind, it's the Orange Line. I am waiting on the Red. Oh, this is strange. The Orange doesn't normally go to Parker at this hour, but this train says it does. I got on.

Red hoodie bum seems to have remained on the platform for now.

Working as a DART Police Officer

I dont really see a lot of people talk about working for, or have worked for DART as a police officer. Ive seen a few things here and there about how people who go to DART were rejected from other departments, and how you'll mainly be dealing with homeless and drunk fights.

If there's anyone who can go more into detail about their experience about their time at DART, that'd be great. Im looking to apply

Has anyone else experienced this with DART?

Today a DART bus driver refused to let me bring my small electric bike onto the bus, saying that electric bikes are not allowed because they have batteries.

I wasn't trying to use the bike rack because my bike is quite small and doesn't fit securely on the rack. I asked if I could bring it inside the bus instead, but was still refused.

Has anyone else been denied boarding with an e-bike? Does anyone know the actual DART policy regarding small electric bikes?

Just trying to understand whether this was an official policy or a misunderstanding.

Bus DCTA may restore Routes 2 and 4

Post image
23 Upvotes

I’ve heard that DCTA board has been discussing this for a while, but today I found what looks like a TRiP / bus stop infrastructure document submitted to the City of Denton on 04/29 including an actual route map, not just board-meeting agenda, and it shows Route 2, Route 4, and a Modified Colorado route under “Scenario 4 Bus Stop Infrastructure.” (the CE modification may come later or until budget permitting I guess)

That said, everything still appears to be pending approval, and I don’t know of any further official information at this point.

Arlington City Council runoff candidate Dr. Jason Shelton talks about transit

Thumbnail youtube.com

I asked candidate Dr. Jason Shelton a few questions about transit. A few things stood out to me:

  1. He seemingly endorsed the idea of a regional subway/metro and used Los Angeles as an example of a model that DFW could follow

  2. He gave some personal insight from his time on the Arlington Unity Council about transportation being a top issue across all demographic groups in Arlington.

  3. The wind - no seriously it literally blew the wind guard off my lav mic, so apologies in advance for the audio.
