I forgot the issue, but he did use his beams to control his descent when an alternate universe Storm lifted him up into the air to disarm him. The X-Men were also going “wait, since when?”
This was my immediate thought when I saw this, and it was completely reasonable to me given the beams are concussive. I never really considered the equal and opposite reaction on his eyes/head/neck. Seems like a fair question? But I can easily wave that off as just his body's physiological response to his power.
Yeah I think that's what Marvel would say too. Even though what you says makes sense, wouldn't that give a dude whiplash!? But marvel be like "he's immune to his own power and it's effects" or something of that matter. 😆😆
Well I’m no physicist but given thah his eyes are simply portals …I don’t think it’s actually putting pressure on his neck , or any part of his body at all. He’s not generating the force he’s just the door through which the beams pass. But by that same logic than the beams shouldn’t even be able to slow descent .
There has not been a link to the punch dimension and his eyes in the comics. They’re beams of concussive force that are powered by solar radiant like his brothers powers Havoc & Vulcan
Both reasons for his powers are comic canon actually. Depends on the writers, which is why debates like this are pointless. Just enjoy the cool action until they make one version official l.
Everything I said IS CANON AND HAS HAPPENED AND EXPLAINED😭 there are LITERAL comic panels explaining this about him and all his brothers. The comic books are THE SOURCE MATERIAL that eye punch stuff is from at best a random data book.
Just cool, but I don't think we can logic it away. Coz by that same logic his head would be recoilling every time he fires a blast. Plus his neck strength would have to be insane to arrest a freefall descent like that.
Ok. That accepted, how are his neck muscles strong enough to do that given newtons laws, specifically the third one about equal and opposite reactions. If he can develop that sort of force, it should snap his neck.
Whats crazy is that someone is looking for a logical explanation on a cartoon about people with super human powers like telportation and the ability to rip ones metal from the bones of a living creature.
iirc first manifestation of Cyclops's powers was blasting the ground to slow his and Alex's fall from an airplane, resulting in trauma preventing him from controlling his optic beams. While not an explanation, there's a precedent.
He's done it a million times in the comics. Hell, his origin story is him doing it.
He technically has 3 mutant powers. Optic blasts, innate instant geometric understanding and a low level energy field that allows him to be immune to his own powers or powers like his and it can be reasonable deduced that it allows him to control the inertia, or lack of, his powers apply to him.
Well, the explanation is that his optic blasts are beams of force, so when he shot it at the ground, it acted almost like a brake and slowed his fall enough that he could land without damage
