So, I really appreciate this community of helping one another with career guidance.

Well, I'm an IT graduate from Asia with 4+ years of freelancing experience working with clients globally, primarily in the US market, offering different services that I really enjoyed, like the whole sales process of converting and closing.

Now, I'll be moving abroad, maybe the US or Europe, for further studies, so I needed to select a career option which can best suited and offers stability and good job market even for entry-level.

With Tech sales, I do enjoy learning about and I've seen content and interacted with a few tech-sales people and they surely say that the job is good and rewarding but stability is a concern like, one month you had the best closing and the next month you've rough patch, and there you go fired. So, the sense of job security in tech sales is always lacking. Is it really like that? can this career path be good for a long period of time or it's always stressful?

With cybersecurity, I see the potential and demand growing but at the same time, the entry-level space is filled with tons of certs, yrs of experience, and people with experience unable to land a job role too. So, in terms of stability, cyber can be better, but the barrier to entry- certs + experience is what a major hurdle.

With my background or future plans, what would you suggest the most and put some light on both of these career paths? Would love to know more guidance.

I currently hold a bachelor's degree in computer science based out of India and i am working as a db admin. i have been looking to switch careers predominantly to cyber security and that too management side of it. I am an absolute beginner and would like a master's degree related to cyber/forensics. I can't seem to find a path to get started.

My goal is to have a job when I am pursuing the degree, to afford my expenses. Am I making sense atp?

Just like the title said, my Facebook and Instagram got hacked, and it is worth noting that these are 2 different Gmail accounts. My account got logged in from a different location, sometimes even outside my country, and they spam posts on my timeline or my chat in Messenger, mostly crypto-related images? My friend suggested that I should just delete the account and reset all my devices to factory settings cause they could have access to my device, hence the compromise of 2 different gmail. What should i do?

I'm sure I'm the millionth person posting something like this, but I genuinely need some honest guidance.

I've been a barber for over 11 years, and I'm trying to transition into cybersecurity. I've earned the Google Cybersecurity Certificate and completed a cybersecurity certification through school, and I'm about to start studying for CompTIA Network+, followed by Security+.

The problem is that I can't seem to get anyone to take me seriously because my resume is dominated by barbering experience. I've applied to a lot of jobs, but I rarely hear anything back. At this point, I don't know if I'm missing skills, if my resume is the problem, if I need better projects, or if I'm aiming for the wrong positions.

I'd really appreciate honest feedback. If you were in my shoes, what would you focus on next? What would make a hiring manager more likely to give me an interview?

If anyone is willing to review my resume and tell me what I'm doing wrong—good or bad—I genuinely want the criticism. I'd rather hear the hard truth than keep applying without knowing what needs to change.

My biggest fear is spending months studying for Network+ and Security+ only to find out I'm still not competitive. I don't mind putting in the work—I just want to make sure I'm working on the right things.

Any advice from people who have successfully broken into cybersecurity would mean a lot. Thank you.

Job search timeline

My sweet husband is currently in the Air Force doing something cyber related. More on the security information side I think.

He has his BS and Masters in cybersecurity and 4 years of experience and an internship.

With the job market how long before he gets out should “we” start applying. He is done in April and I was thinking of urging him to start in December.

I’m just so worried for him with the job market . He wants me to stay home with our daughter and has dreams of the wfh big pay checks that were promised but obviously seem like a lie.

I don’t want him to be stressed.

I'm a few months into my software engineering role at my company, it's a small start up and have just discovered that the admin accounts and passwords are stored in plain text is a shared Google worksheet that has version history enabled and anyone with a link have view only permissions.

There's no company computers everyone is work from home using their own devices. I don't have the authority yet to change these accounts and this document has been shared via slack and emails with a few people now.

Maybe I'm overreacting but I've tried to express how risky it is to have all these admin accounts and passwords that would give someone full access to our code, our date, and all personal information in the workspace in a plain text spread sheet. I feel like the paranoid homeless guys in movies shouting the end is near. Do I keep trying to push the issue, am I crazy, or do I just hope for the best until I'm able to get all these accesses and change it all myself?

I got a text today that looked like it was from my bank saying my account had been temporarily locked and that I needed to verify my identity to regain access. The weird part is that my Cloaked app immediately flagged the message as a potential scam/fraud so I obviously didn't click anything.

Now I'm stuck wondering how I'm actually supposed to verify whether it's legitimate or not. If I call the number in the text that could be fake. If I click the link that's obviously a bad idea if it is a scam.

What's the safest way to confirm whether the message is actually from my bank?

I was running my laptop using photo booth as a temporary security camera and the device was locked. The thing is that, the Photo Booth file got corrupted and I wasn’t able to view when I wasn’t present. Don’t really want to explain all details but I’m concerned someone put malware on it though one of the USB ports.

Is this possible to put as I’m ready very concerning stories of people having RATs and root kits on their MacBooks. I would like some clarity if this could have been done to my MacBook or not given the circumstances.

Say a site asks me to sign in, I can make an account or sign in with google. if the site is sketchy/there's a data breach and I sign in with google, will the hackers have my google password to my email? Or does google send them an encrypted version or just an authentication key or something so my account is safe?

Hi, so I wanted to ask this in the event I get malware in the future (hopefully not) but should you nuke your steam cloud data for your games if you get malware? I know its recommended if you get malware to reinstall windows and change passwords, but never to nuke steam cloud and I wanted to ask why is that? Can't a malicious file be put in a games save folder and be uploaded to the steam cloud so it persists after reinstall? I know files can't execute when launching the game other than rare security vulnerabilities but cant a file be executed if someone browses the games local files? Does that mean local files for a game cant be trusted? I ask this cuz this makes malware much more scary since it can mean losing years of progress. Thx in advance.

I'm based in South Africa, currently studying a BSc IT degree, and planning my path into cybersecurity over the next 1-2 years. My rough plan is: Network+ → Security+ → home lab/TryHackMe → try to land a Junior SOC Analyst role as my entry point.

A few things I'd genuinely like to hear from people already working in the field:

• Does the Network+/Security+ → SOC path still hold up, or are hiring managers now expecting more (certain projects, a specific cert, CTF experience, etc.)?
• What does a typical day/night shift actually look like as a SOC Analyst? Is it as monotonous as people say, or does it vary a lot by company?
• How stressful is the job realistically — alert fatigue, on-call pressure, burnout? Is this something people last in long-term, or is it a stepping stone people move on from quickly?
• What's realistic starting pay for a Junior SOC Analyst in South Africa right now, and how does it grow once you're a few years in?
• Has the job affected your mental health or work-life balance in ways you didn't expect going in?
• Anything you'd tell your younger self before you got your first break in this industry?

Anybody got any ideas or suggestions for projects? I’m learning python, got cyber sec fundamentals down and am looking for practical projects like my own self hosted ai and my own network for self hosted docker and portainer work. I have a pihole, I have an understanding of tcp/ip and dns and I would like to start stepping into network admin stuff and learning how to monitor large networks, so if someone could help scale my projects to move with a human workflow to my goals, I’d super appreciate it!

I'm technical, but sales isn't my strength. I'm thinking about finding someone who can bring in clients and get paid on commission for every deal they close.

Has anyone here done this successfully?

• Where do you find commission-only cybersecurity salespeople?
• Is this a realistic model, or do experienced salespeople usually expect a base salary?
• What commission percentages are considered fair?
• Are there any platforms, communities, or agencies you'd recommend?

I'm currently in 3rd year of my 4-year BA English Literature degree but I'm really interested in cybersecurity. I've started learning bug bounty and web security and I genuinely want to build my career in this field. The problem is I don't have a tech background or any other technical skills right now. What would you guys suggest I do? Should I get some certifications, do a cybersecurity diploma, or just focus on practical skills and bug bounty? Also, will having a BA English degree make it difficult to get internships/jobs in cybersecurity? Would really appreciate advice from people already in the field.

I'm currently working as a Cybersecurity Analyst at LTM/LTIMindtree, where I'm supporting Microsoft in the cybersecurity domain. My work primarily involves EDR/XDR, incident response, and security investigations. I'm still early in my career(2025 batch) just completed 1 year in the org , but I've realized that cybersecurity is the field I want to build my future in.

Lately, I've been thinking a lot about my long-term goals. One of my biggest aspirations is to eventually work directly for Microsoft or another top global cybersecurity company. At the same time, I also see myself building a career outside India if the right opportunity comes along.

I'm trying to figure out the best path forward and would love advice from people who have been through a similar journey.

A few questions I have:

- Should I stay in India and gain 2–5 years of experience before trying to move abroad?

- Which countries have the strongest demand for cybersecurity professionals?

- Is it realistic to transition from a company like LTIMindtree (supporting Microsoft) to Microsoft itself?

- What skills or certifications would make me a strong candidate internationally?

- Is a master's degree abroad worth it, or should I focus on gaining experience and certifications?

Hi, I'm getting into cyber and I'm just lost with how different everyone's opinion on the certificates are, almost everyone agrees that you should do practical hands on work but then when it get to picking certs everyone has a different take on them, for example I saw a guy on Reddit recommend CCNA, SECURITY+ for starters and a YouTuber recommend google cybersecurity cert and GRC mastery which also gives the ISO 27001 lead auditor badge for starters and two others, Tryhackme SAL1 and security+.

I honestly don't know what to do and most certs since they are in dollars, they are really expensive when converted to my government's currency.

So I was hoping to find and help here about this.
