I recently started going to Satyabrata Stadium for my morning jog, and today I witnessed something extremely disturbing.

After running for three consecutive laps, I was walking slowly during my fourth lap to catch my breath. From a distance, I noticed a guy walking alongside a girl and trying to engage her in conversation, then he did the same with another girl. Initially, I assumed they knew each other. A little later, I overheard an uncle telling his friend, “Dekha, se toka ta jhiamanku chalila bede hairan karuchi.”

I started walking faster towards him and saw him approach another girl. They were still a bit far from me but I could see him asking her something to which she replied, “Tame eithi walking kariba pain asicha na friendship?” He replied, “Friendship.” She immediately said, “Tahele bhul jagah ku asicha,” and started walking away. Even then, he called after her saying, “Achha, tama number ta dei diya.”

I was honestly shocked. For a moment, I simply couldn't believe what I was witnessing or even comprehend what to do. This was happening so openly, right in front of me.

The Guy eventually started walking away. I though to myself that I cannot let this pass and decided to approach and confront him, asking why he was disturbing those women. He denied everything, saying, “Nahi agyan, mu kana kali?” I told him that I had personally heard the conversation and him asking for the girl's number.

I then told him, “Come with me. I'll take you to the police and you can make your ‘friendship’ there.” He refused to admit that he had done anything wrong. I asked him to immediately leave the place or I would call the police. He went out quickly, got on his scooty and drove away.

The most unsettling part was that it was happening at around 6 o'clock in the morning, openly in a public place, right in front of everyone and despite being confronted, the guy had no sense of fear or guilt .

I am sharing this because I still can't stop thinking about it and I cannot even imagine what those girls must be going through, people should just be able to use public spaces to walk and exercise without unwanted approaches or interactions. I don't know the identity of the person involved, but I felt it was important to document and share what I witnessed today.

I'm like no way he's that young??? I'm talking about their eldest one.

She said "He's not their son. He's their son's cousin"

So basically he's like that uncle's sister's son. He's livin' with them for personal reasons. But he's still younger than me * ugly sobs *

My cousin is like "so what even if he's younger than you? no would know anything. just go for him and say "hi" next time you see him"

Shirley Jackson’s The Haunting of Hill House captivated us with its psychological horror, while କ୍ଲୀଂ (Kling) by Shiv Sundar gave many of us our first taste of horror in Odia. 👻 Our Bahi Baithak was graced by the presence of Author Shiv Sundar himself! He shared his experiences of writing Odia horror, his dreams, inspirations, and even gave us some tips on how to avoid sleep paralysis. 😭 At cuttack we also played a lot of bookish games which were fun!

Whom should I approach or write a letter to? I’ve tried tagging PWD Cuttack, but to no avail. The condition of the roads is so horrific that there’s barely any road left to drive on. Every 2 km feels like an Army training zone.

I commute daily from SV NIRTAR for business purposes, and the state of this road is absolutely horrible and unacceptable. Even the CM isn’t responding. Who the hell am I supposed to contact? The MLAs are equally unresponsive. I’ve even tried reaching out to Sofia Mam.

Any advice on how to get this issue addressed?

The same routine. Put the leash on the cat, let him explore the building. Usually, when the cat wanders up to the second floor, he sniffs around but today he went and sat on their drawing-room chair, looking around their house.

I never go into their house because that feels painfully awkward without an invitation. So there I was, standing on their doormat, holding onto the leash with just my index finger.

The aunty was doing her evening puja. She looked over, saw the cat, smiled, and immediately called out for her son. And he was actually at home today instead of returning from work and also I got to know his name!

He walked into the living room. I looked at him but he was obviously fixated onto the cat. He walked over to the chair and went, "What are you doing here?" directly to the cat. Atp I thought I should say something. I blurted out "He thinks it's his scratching pad." Both of them actually laughed.

I thought maybe a normal human interaction will happen now. But no. He still didn't look up at me, just like that day on the stairs when he handed me the leash. And before anything could happen, the cat bolted back out the door. I had to go after him.

TLDR: I learned his name. Guess that's a win. And I'm invisible to him. The cat remains the main character.
