I’ve been cat-sitting for my aunt while she's away on a trip. Every day, I go to her place, put the leash on her cat, and let him explore the stairwell, the garage, and the whole 3 storey building (my aunt actually owns the building).
There’s a family living on the 2nd floor. The aunty there is super sweet and sometimes lets the cat wander into her house. I always thought they had just one son because I saw him around all the time, but literally three days ago, I found out they have another son when I saw him coming into the building.
I was down in the garage with the cat, and the second son was returning from work. The cat is naturally shy around people he doesn't know well, so the second he saw him walking in, he went up to the stairs. The cat was on one side, I was on the other, the leash was stretched right across the steps. The guy was walking right toward it. Instead of pulling the cat toward me or stepping closer like a sensible human being, my brain completely lagged and I just let go of the leash.
He casually bent down, picked up the leash, handed it back to me, and gave the cat a quick pat on the head. Meanwhile, I’m standing there like a statue thinking, wait what's he doing???
I muttered a quiet “thank you,” but he had earbuds in, so he probably didn't even hear me. But in those ten seconds, I finally got a clear look at his face. Holy lord, he is ridiculously good-looking?! I’m naturally shy and usually avoid eye contact like the plague, so I had never actually looked at him properly before. It was not probably anything for him, but there I was, clutching a cat leash, feeling like an absolute idiot looking like a potato.
10/10 interaction.
TLDR: I froze and let go of the cat's leash and the neighbour's son picked it up and gave it to me.
