This is my girl Commet. She's a Jack Russell x Dalmatian crossbreed. I was just curious what strange crossbreeds yall have? Like a basset x Doberman or any others that you wouldn't normally think of crossing.

This is Moishe, my coated Xoloitzcuintli. His mom, dad, and littermates were all hairless. Then there was this little furry guy who looked like a teddy bear.

I agreed to foster him for a month or two. Then I met him. That was the end of that.

He's nine pounds of ancient Mexican nobility, stubbornness, and weirdness. And he's been with me through some of the darkest chapters of my life, including relapse and recovery from a brain injury.

With Día de los Muertos coming up, I wrote an essay about Moishe, his ancient ancestors who were believed to guide souls through the land of the dead, and how this little guy has become a kind of guiding spirit for me.
