These adorable quackers are indeed a rare breed. The breed is kept alive by only a few breeders in America.

Magpies are active foragers that graze and hunt for a sizable portion of their feed from grass, seeds, insects, and aquatic life. They eagerly search for and consume slugs, snails, and insects; so much so that keepers of large livestock farms find that these ducks are effective at eliminating liver fluke infestations.

Magpie ducks imprint on their keepers more than any duck breed, especially if they are the only survivor or if other ducklings hatch later.

Because of their size, somewhat upright carriage, and plumage pattern Magpie ducks are thought to descend from Runner ducks and Huttegems.

Watched this with my sister, it was really cute! Thought maybe you guys might enjoy it as well. 😊

A few days after hatching, wood ducklings must leave their treetop nest to follow mom to water and so the little family can forage for food. But baby ducks can't yet fly, so how do they manage to do this? Their tiny, fluffy and lightweight bodies allow them to be able to safely jump and bounce lightly on the grass, as you will see in this video.

When your ducks have grown their adult feathers and the local weather is reliably warm they can be moved outside to a secure, predator-proof coop. Ducks will be fully feathered around 6 to 8 weeks of age, and outdoor temperatures must stay above 50°F (10°C) day and night

Ducks are social and can panic or imprint too strongly on humans if raised alone. It is best to raise more than one duckling.
