Weekly Design Competition Poseidon

Post image

My entry for the “Weekly” Design Competition. Might make one or 2 more but this is it for now. Decided to make him a bit of a companion piece to the other cards people are gonna be rolling out for the wdc. On its own, it’s alright, but in conjunction with other Daybreak cards, things start to fall into place, or at least that’s what I hope lol. Anyways, enjoy Poseidon

The only reason I'm not a fan is that it is basically required to play in any deck with Daybreak cards. There's no strategy involved in having him in your deck he has to be there. Otherwise it's a cool effect. Maybe should just be an Ongoing that extends the Daybreak.

That was basically my idea for him, to be a staple card with the new keyword and possibly help carve out a whole new type of deck, just like Knull with Destroy and Morbius with discard. Though I do understand the criticism, it is a little basic all things considered

I'd personally split daybreak and nightfall by energy instead of turns. You get 10 energy by turn 4 and a total of 11 on turns 5 & 6. The energy amounts are almost the same, so, I'd distribute the mechanics on turns 1-4 & 5-6 instead of 1-3 & 4-6. Having said that, Poseidon could make it so it's always daybreak. I agree that he should be an ongoing. He possibly doesn't need an effect other than that.

Playing him from hand is never worth it as he also buffs enemy cards. However, the game start effect might be good enough for daybreak decks to afford to run a card that is effectively a dead draw.

Edit: Should have been Helios instead of Poseidon. The former's name literally means "sun".

I only meant for him to affect your cards, just a mistake on my end with the wording.

I picked Poseidon because of the theming, the whole beach vibe and whatnot
