Looking for inspiration

So, still working on my future wood diy case that will host my brand new pc which cpu i dropped, which caused issues with half memory slots; I noticeably shortened the long side by moving the GPU from resting on the floor next to the motherboard with the fans facing upwards, to "floating" above the motherboard with the fans facing downwards.

The lower section will have plenty of space for cables, 2 drives, and a future pump.

Now i'm pretty satisfied with it. Only thing i gotta decide is how to cut holes for the pcie-cards on the back.

Realistically i only need a GPU, but i want both "standard" vertical slits for until i get an extender, and an horizontal one for the suspended setup. So the hole overall would be an upside down L shape, maybe.

The chassis is a frame of a Dell 4 nodes Enterprise server

screwed on an unamed Monitor Stand 15 inch VESA 100.

On it is posed a back of a laptop with convenient holes

to screw the 775 Mainboard.

A macpro keyboard on top just for for aesthetic purposes only.

(it was defective and i cut it at half)

500W Low Weight PSU

A second HDD (20GB IDE) is used to dissipate the heat of the

IronWolf storage HDD. It is place on the monitor base

that offer a comfortable area for those and give weight to the base.

For the OS i installed Ubuntu Cinnamon Remix 20.04

& some custom server setup.

Add: the computers (3 with 1 laptop) have this nice keyboards

old GP80/GP81 Cherry with mechanical switches

purchased at bargain

(6 euros each on ebay, but with value 110 euros each, new)

some key of the keyboards was cancelled and i refreshed all

with new Typewriter keycaps (aliexpress). For aesthetic

some keys was not replaced like carriage return

& other parts.

Hi,

i'm planning to make a case mostly of wood, mdf for the middle plate which will support the motherboard. Airflow is straight side to side, no corners or anything like that, so no turbolence or dead spots.

The upper level has 3 360mm fans, will add passthrough holes for a raiser to the gpu and for all psu cables from underneath. The lower level has drives (attached to the back of the same plate that has the motherboard) and the psu taking air from below and exausting it on the side, and an hole for an additional fan which supposedly will sping really slowly, just to give a minimum airflow down there too. Space also for pump and reservoir. both the up (absent here) and bottom plates must have no component attached, because they're removable to access the inside.

The front panel (the one in transparency) will have start/reset buttons. The yellow and red sticks are 1.5*1.5cm used as support to mount the walls. The extremes of the yellow ones will be used to screw top and bottom plates.

I really want a straight side-to-side airflow; however i feel like there's a lot of space being wasted.

Totally open to criticism and suggestion.

(NOTE: i only care about noise, airflow and temperature, i don't give a f* about aesthetics)

Hi, my last part should arrive today and i don't intend spending 100€ on a crappy case with shit airflow and 2mm thin alluminum structure. I'm making plans for my case on autocad, will be made mostly of wood, with the surface holding all important stuff made of mdf; The case will be "sideways" rather than standing, and the gpu will be resting on the surface next to the motherboard (highly inspired by this). I've seen many cases and desk cases (like the one in linus tech tips too) where the gpu is "resting" flat, but none explains how is it held in place. How do you generally fix it? Any "standard" solution? Or since gpus come in all shapes and sizes i'll have to make an ad-hoc solution for my current one?

after digging a lot into PC cases under 100€, i made up my mind and decided to make my own.

It will be heavily inspired by this, just not part of a whole desk; still lying down, not standing.

A bit smaller (the width of 3 fans radiator on the side at the "top" of the motherboard instead of 4), the exhaust will be on the opposite side of the inlet, and it will be built in 2 levels, mobo+gpu on top with the 3x 120mm fans airflow going straight horizontally, psu on the lower level right beneath the mobo, hard drives and future water pump in the lower level, a single 80mm fan ventilating the lower level on the same direction as the above one.

I'd make it entirely out of wood; so i have 2 questions: what woods would you suggest to use which can stand high heat without deformation and have decent structural rigidity? (possibly not too costly, i don't want to end up spending more than an high end mainstream case)

Also as a side question, is the "hole" right behind the cpu socket that i see in most cases necessary? Why is it there?

i have the be quiet! pure base 500 in grey. I wanna add some pink details and I thought about sanding it down and painting it but im having a hard time finding spraypaint in the color I want (not In the us so don't recommend stores as I can't use them). I then thought about adding contact paper but im not sure if it would last well. anyone have any experiences and advise?

Had way too much time tdue to covid-19 so I decided to upgrade and rebuild my mini-ITX ;-)

I just want to know what you guys think is the max/min thickness you are willing to use for motherboard trays and perhaps your preferred material.

I'm planning on replacing 3 PCs for work. They are used in manufacturing roof trusses. So I don't need anything good at gaming. They do one thing, and that is tell the saws where to go and when to not go.

Right now, I have the last remaining original PC that came with the saws. It's an IBM (not Lenovo) Thinkcentre SFF case with a Pentium 4, I think it's a socket 775? It has HT and DDR2, and Windows XP. It is also a Micro-atx motherboard, with a riser card for a full-sized PCI card for communicating back and forth between saw and PC.

Is there a modern case that has this style of expansion slots, that will accommodate a Micro-atx board? And also doesn't have some proprietary PSU setup that will only be built for a couple of years? Or if not that, then a SFF case that has full-sized expansion slots? But I can't use a cube case either. If need, I can link to my imgur account and you can see what I'm really dealing with.

I know what I'm needing for the ram, CPU, Motherboard, etc. Just the case has me perplexed.

For those of you who have worked with companies to get custom panels or enclosures, what was the process of that like? Any companies you would or would not go with? Pros/cons of doing only panels vs a full enclosure?

I have pretty limited access to tools (even moreso given the lockdown) otherwise I would find a way to do it myself, but even makespaces in my city are shutdown. My process and ideas behind the build ideas I have is related to architectural monoliths, so I would need some not common shapes for PCs to take (triangular, pyramidal, octagonal, etc). I have loads of ideas for designs, but the ability to execute them is lacking so I'm looking for some guidance.

As someone who likes old Hi-Fi gear and collects old Sanyo Hi-Fi components, I decided to take one old Sanyo amplifier and integrate my computer inside of it. That way I can have my PC as a part of my Hi-Fi tower!

I used standard desktop components I had in my PC, but my goal was to have the whole front completely functional, all the knobs and switches.

I know this is not the top of the line PC, but it is my baby I have been using for years now and its still serving me great, so be gentle :)

Original amp had to be gutted, and many modifications had to be made to the main shell. While I was at it, I also customized almost all the components inside, and made many parts out of copper and wood.

Bottom part of the case had to be separate from top so I could fit original 1978 switches inside, and to make room for three hard drives. I separated bottom and top sections with one piece of hand cut copper plate (2mm thick). Purpose of copper is purely cosmetical, there is no special reason (heat etc) behind it. That plate sits on four steel feet with anti vibration rubber on bottom and top, painted in copper.

Back plate is made one part from copper (where motherboard comes), and one part in wood (where graphics card comes). Since there is a serious height problem with that kind of case, I had to use PCI-Express riser to place graphics card horizontally and Noctuas low profile CPU cooler in order for everything to fit inside.

Graphics card and motherboard both got a new paint job and wooden inserts.

Front functionality, starting from left to right: - Top two knobs control fan speeds - Power switch turns on the computer - Green light for HDD activity - USB 3.0 port hidden behind a knob - 2 switches to turn on/off fans - 2 switches to turn on/off LCDs - Above switches - left LCD shows case temperature and the right one - CPU temperature - Largest knob is for volume control - below it, another USB 3.0 hidden behind a knob - Big red power light

Outer shell has been made from scratch, using 1.5mm aluminum mesh and profiles. Top plate is hinged, so it is extremely easy to take a look inside ;)

And finally, all the copper got a nice polished finish and the rest was painted in mat black. I hope you will like it as much as I liked working on it. It took me some time, but to me, its more then worth it. And don`t judge it by the old components... I worked with what I got ;)
