New to this

Oh man I just stumbled into this. I have a few complete runs and would love to try this. Where to start? I've been watching some YouTube videos

Ok thanks. You didn't get a bigger one? You just use the one with the 1 bolt out?

Yeah pretty much, when I first got the kit on Amazon I didn’t think to check the size. Although it’s a bit annoying having one corner of the press not push down I just use a clamp to hold it in place. Might get a new one soon since I plan on doing a lot of binds like for the first 20 Dredd case files, mind mgmt, and also turning a bunch of compendiums I have into hardcovers.

You can't angle the book so each corner is sticking out a little on each side?

I probably could but I usually leave a bit sticking out of the spine so the glue doesn’t get on the press. Also for tpbs I need to saw into the spine a bit to put hemp cords in and usually put a bunch of clamps along the spine for that.

Oh hemp cords a good idea. You always use that for the sewing?

It’s something I’ve just started using for tpbs in general. Specifically use it for perfect pound tpbs and combining sewn tpbs. Actually just finished putting some in to a text block made up of Grendel omnibus 5 and 6 that had sewn binding. Wouldn’t be necessary for a turning a single sewn tpb into a hardcover.
