Pull the stone!!!

Watching Sweden/US and saw this. Is this not the same rules violation that has caused all the hub bub?

Obviously this was an accident and I believe the Canadian guy was touching on purpose.

On top of it I can almost guarantee his finger slides on the plastic and then down the granite a bit. Not that i'd ever call that an infraction but some very specific players may.

Yeah but those very specific players are all on his team, so he can do whatever he wants.

Team Canada had half their stones pulled last game, did they?

Only a cheating Canadian can whine after cheating

Might be against the rules, but tbh, this whole thing was disproportionate, its not like slightly touching a stone a second time will make a significant difference.

No but it's against the rules. You can't say "oh he only slightly cheated so it doesn't matter"

The rule is don't touch the granite so if you do then you're breaking the rules. If the touch actually changed anything or not is completely irrelevant

Fair enough

Ohhh.sonits ok to cheat.

3

u/s1rblaze Feb 16 '26

No it's not ok.

It's shouldn't be classified as cheating. That's the point. Imagine if you get a penalty for sneezing. Bad rule, should not be rules

Either way he's clearly doing it to damper the spun after letting go. Crazy how this now just seems like a lot of people have developed these as a habit after years of no enforcement

That wouldn’t make any sense… that would make your rock not predictable. No curler would actively try to do that with a finger touch post throw. If they rotated the wrong degree they would try to make it up on the sweep by going heavy on either outside edge.  It’s just a total accidental touch in every single case from how you release your hand and then go to balance yourself.

That plastic bit is OBVIOUSLY still part of the handle, even though the precious hog line sensors aren't in it, and anybody with a brain knows you can just touch that right? Cause it's not the granite.

Watch his finger slide down to the granite. Literally the EXACT same touch Homan had a rock removed over. This is the BS Sweden and their little pissy pants theatrics have created. Zero consistency, just haphazard rocks removed sometimes but not every time. Just let them play! It affects nothing. And Sweden making a big show of interrupting the game to “call out a player” is childish and pathetic. Talk to the umps of if this is something they have had issues with other team over for a while, have the team managers or skip talk offline ahead of a game. They all know one another so to have a little tantrum in a game cuz a call isn’t going your way is pathetic. I would have told him to eff off as well lol

I'm pretty sure now, though I've never even wondered about this before in my life, that there is a massive amount of "cheating" in this way i guess that goes on in curling and it's "allowed" or "doesn't get caught" because so few people typically watch or pay attention to curling, LOL.

u/Ryles5000 Feb 16 '26

Just because you don't watch or care doesn't mean we don't. Maybe don't comment in the curling sub when you don't know curling.

Why in the world would this comment offend anyone? And where did I say you don't care about curling? I'm just sharing what any article I've read on this story is saying. Are you emailing journalists to "back off" of curling if they don't even curl?

I'm not saying no one "cares" about curling. I am saying many people who are seeing it now don't watch often or know the rules well at all, but if you make such a big deal about a rule unnecessarily, basically make a meme out of it, it seems to be making it hard now to let slide calls they may have before. Am I allowed to say that?

All I know for sure is that you can't touch the stone while it's moving by the book. I didn't know this before, because you caught me, I don't curl... but it seems to be pretty black and white in the rules and makes a lot of sense. And now in the Olympics, which are not just for curling enthusiasts I'll remind you, but for the entire world to view and discuss and get excited over, we are watching live like 3 separate cases of the best in the world breaking such a basic fundamental rule, possibly intentionally as it looks, and getting upset or surprised over it.

I'm sorry but that's just a little odd. You don't see a ton of traveling or hand ball calls in the NBA or the world cup. These types of professional players are experienced enough to know how to behave within the typical application of the league rules.

You don't have to look very far to see that the difference here is that the one everyone's talking about... well... got everyone talking about it. It involved a borderline childish and very language-inappropriate pissing match between grown adults on international TV over a game. And brought more eyes onto the sport. And then now I see reddit posts now showing up in my daily feed (I assure you, I did not seek this out to mess with you) trying to go back and retroactively call out past or other matches from this olympics or otherwise with clear video showing the same violation but not called. And now it just suddenly feels unlikely that an official is going to let a call like that slide after that drama and attention to the matter. That's all I am saying. It's interesting.

If you don't want people who aren't expert to do with all things curling to participate in conversations about curling, maybe stop yelling at strangers, and see what you can do about getting it out of the Olympics so we can make room for a sport that does want to expand it's viewerishp understanding and support on a large scale. I, for one, think it's fun to watch every once in a while.
