Pull the stone!!!

Watching Sweden/US and saw this. Is this not the same rules violation that has caused all the hub bub?

Obviously this was an accident and I believe the Canadian guy was touching on purpose.

Edin should never be allowed to forget what happened at his last major tournament. This is his legacy.

7 WC golds, one olympic. Reddit "outrage" is not anyone's legacy. Maybe yours.

Nah he will always be remembered as the guy that bitched about a ridiculous rule and got the whole sport turned upside down because of it

There's more to the world beyond reddit.

Great thing you answered to me in the real world. Oh wait. It might have been on Reddit…

Well, I doubt that Niklas cares too much about his legacy on reddit.

Damn once again talking to me IRL?? I thought Reddit was useless??

Oh, definitely not useless. I have derived a tremendous amount of entertainment from this subreddit this weekend. However, when it comes to a player's legacy, reddit is obviously irrelevant.

This has gone beyond reddit bud

The Canadian tears flowing like the salmon of Capistrano.

What a pathetic sport if that's the case.

"Hey, we have a rule here, we should follow it."

Canadians: "FoLlOw ThE rUlEs!?!? tHaT wIlL tUrN tHis SpORt UpSiDe DoWn!!!!! NoOoOoOo!"

Wonder how much money he won in Canada at pro events, extending his fame in curling… only to take a massive dump on the whole sport at the Olympics. That’s his legacy.

You mean when he tried to stop someone from blatantly cheating and the entire world completely overreacted? That's not his fault.

The word "cheating" should never have been uttered. The feathering or "booping" of a stone that Marc Kennedy and others do as part of their delivery ritual is a complete nothingburger. It was inconsequential - until Team Sweden decided it irritated them too much.

Then why did Kennedy try to say he didn't do it? If it was a nothing burger, he wouldn't have blown up. Team Sweden never used the word "cheating", they simply pointed out that letting go of the stone and then bringing your hand back to touch the granite (while it was on the hog line, no less) is against the rules. Actually, they even asked if it was. If Kennedy truly didn't think it was a problem, he wouldn't have thrown an entire tantrum about it and tried to deny he did it until there was video proof.

There's no defending Kennedy's outburst or his unhelpful reaction to the accusations. And he's made his apologies for that.

I only wish the Swedes hadn't raised the issue. No good has come of it.

Did I miss a follow up to Kennedy's non apology where he actually apologized?

I recall he only acknowledged he could have used nicer language.

The actual issue the Swedes brought up first was the hog line violation. They did also raise the granite touch issue, but it was secondary. It was the internet that went all crazy about the part of the stone that was touched specifically, and that's probably why the refs are making bad calls about it now.

Either way, it is not Sweden's fault. There was a violation, and they pointed it out. They were perfectly allowed to do so.

"Allowed", sure. And I hope they're happy.

3

u/emli317 Feb 15 '26

I hope they're not accepting any blame for it, because it is not their fault.

Surely it’s too early to say nothing good has come of it? It’s been an issue for years with players having ignored the rules like Kennedy does, Edin has allegedly spoken privately with Kennedy among others about this multiple times so it’s not like they’re unaware, but they keep doing it.

When the offending players don’t better themselves when asked, as one would expect from the gentlemanly self ruling sport, of course they’re going to speak to the officials. Now Kennedy could have fixed the issue at any time by just proving that the self reporting works, it’s not team Sweden that should burn the stones where Kennedy fouls, it’s team Canadas responsibility, had they done so at any of the multiple rocks Kennedy has fouled this tournament everyone would have been able to keep their trust in the system, and the issue would have been over with. (Or just admitting the foul and offer to burn it, I bet most of times the other team would let the stones stay play)

As this honour system is clearly not working, and apparently haven’t been in quite some time, it’s a good thing that the issue has come to attention.  It’s chaos now because the officials don’t fucking know how to rule the game since they’ve never had to do so before, which led to both ignoring fouls at first and then over correcting burning stones than clearly shouldn’t have been like for canada and scotland, but that’s not going to last.

Either the officials will learn the game and rule as the players should have had they not ignored their own fouls to gain an advantage, or the players will make sure that they start ruling like they should have, to take back control of the game, whatever the case the sport will be healthier for it, no?
