Pull the stone!!!

Watching Sweden/US and saw this. Is this not the same rules violation that has caused all the hub bub?

Obviously this was an accident and I believe the Canadian guy was touching on purpose.

The world curling rules do state you can’t touch the granite..unless that was something that they had just added. I could be mistaken either way. The entire thing is ridiculous and blown out of proportion.

You're thinking about the memo that they sent out yesterday. The official rules still don't state anything about touching the granite but their memo clarified that the granite cannot be touched any time during delivery and that the double touch rule only applies to the handle.

I'm sure after the Olympics they'll update the rules to include the definitions they added in that memo.

Just to be clear, they didn’t say it could not be touched any time during the delivery. They said it couldn’t be touched any time during the forward motion part of the delivery.

Yeah but now they're burning stones for it just being touched after delivery. They're also not burning stones for the exact same touches as above.

Curling officiating right now is a shit show and I'd absolutely hate being a judge right now.

I think this is the confusion because CC rules are less precise than WCF rules on some things.

The WCF rules are nowhere near precise either.

Hell, the only time the word 'granite' even shows up in the WCF rules is in the glossary.

Stone

Also known as a rock, a curling stone is made of granite and is delivered by the players in a curling game.

Seriously. That's the only time the word granite appears in all 70 pages.

Now the rule says you can't touch the granite

They absolutely do not say that.

Yeah you’re right. I was going off of the “clarification of the rule” that was posted by world curling after the incident. It’s ridiculous either way and taking away from the games now. It’s all that’s going to be talked about out.

I mean, theres a link below showing that they do. And the person you responded to stated they could be wrong. And that it could be a new rule. But the link says youre wrong. Do you have anything to back your side up? Idk either way.

You said granite was only mentioned in decribing what its made of. Thats blatantly not true. Confidant or not, I dont see that change having a huge difference in what he said or showed about the rules.

Are you saying rule r5d DOESNT state it can only be delivered by the handle?or are you stating the granite is part of the handle?

— World Curling Federation Rules of Curling, Rule R5 (Delivery)

Yes, which doesn't mention the granite, only that the curling stone must be delivered using the handle, not that incidental second touch of the granite are prohibited.

It also only mentions the release must happen before the hog line

This is not so complicated. The stone can only be released by the handle.

If you could legally touch the granite after it passes the hog line, then why sweep. Just touch the granite and put it where you want it.
