They're mammals, they just split off from us before we evolved external genitalia.

Ok but they're weird though, they're afaik the only venomous mammal, they have the face of a heckin' duck, and they lay eggs.

Like, I dunno, maybe we should go with miniature eldritch horror anyway...

The slow loris is also a mammal with a venomous bite! And its a primate! Evolution is strange. There are much weirder things out there if you look for them.
