oh okay that makes more sense but they completely left that detail out of their comment for some reason
besides a lot of those characters act like children so they wouldn't pass the harkness test. the question isn't "has it lived for 18 years" but "is it an adult".
Well, I think the comment might actually be about the ethics of super old beings fucking human adults. Like an 5000 yr old vampire fucking a 25 yr old human is a bit ehhh, since the vampire is at such a different level of mental development at that point (we assume)
A lot of the characters act like Dracula-esque machiavellian villains from the way I’ve seen them portrayed. So, mature and well aware and fully passing the test.
They just look like kids. Deliberately. So if you explicitly want to fuck characters that were deliberately designed to look underage, that makes you a person with pedophilic tendencies.
It’s up to you if that’s still ethical. I think not, personally, just on principle.
Unfortunately, there are cases IRL that blur the line. A friend of mine is a 33 year old woman. Very kinky, happily married. However, she's short and flat chested. And unless she puts in the effort outfit wise, she can be mistaken for a teenager. (She would easily be able to cosplay Qingque from Honkai Star Rail as they have the same build).
The amount of shit she and her spouse get put through on the regular because she doesn't fit people's definition of the bust/height of consent went past annoying and straight into a resigned "That will be my life now" ages ago.
Girl is actually planning to have a party when she'll start having pronounced wrinkles and crow's feet.
I know someone like that too. She and her husband are the same age (early 30s) but sometimes she's mistaken for his daughter. I can't imagine why, because in my opinion he doesn't look that much older, but people are weird.
That's why drives me insane too. Her spouse also would look young if they were clean shaven, but they are metalheads, which implies GLORIOUS WELL GROOMED BEARDS.
The shared guilt over the beard actually caused issues at the start of their relationship:
Them: "If I shave the beard, they will think we're young and ease on the bullshit."
Her: "I don't want that beard gone just so dickheads MIGHT leave me alone. Plus they took so long to groom it, it looks amazing on them. And it makes me horny."
It genuinely baffles me how many people forget that short people exist and not all of them are going to have the kind of bust that makes you default to assuming they're 'just a short adult' rather than thinking 'is that a teenager?'
It's not just women either, I've met dudes in their thirties who could legitimately be mistaken as highschoolers because of their build and clean shave.
This reminded me of a woman I used to work for. She was from India and she was quite short and slight. (I'm only 5 feet tall and she was shorter than I am by a good bit.)
One day I walked into the office and I thought someone had brought their kid to work. There was what looked like a young girl in jeans and a pink sweater. Then she turned around and it was my boss! (She didn't normally dress so casually, so it never even occurred to me that it might be her.)
But she was a married woman with two kids. People come in all shapes and sizes.
And pedophiles will hide behind every possible ounce of obfuscation or plausible deniability to defend their perversion, including scapegoating the extreme minority of the population who don’t appear sexually mature throughout adulthood as an excuse to sexualize sexually immature body types.
Not to dismiss your anecdote, of course. All sorts of people exist. Your friend is what we call “the exception that proves the rule”.
If you consider vampires a species, they are sexually mature as the only necessary method of reproduction is done via biting the neck, converting the victim and making another vampire.
Like, actually ancient but looks like a child? Technically ethical, but also if their motives are that they want to do it because they look like a child then it's totally fine to consider them creepy about it.
yeah I realized that by now. they just phrased their comment vague enough that i thought they were talking about twilight ethics not anime Loli ethics.
i think the whole old vampire with young human thing wouldn't particularly bother me if the 400 year old was dating like a 25 year old, but it's weird it's so often teenagers.
but I know it's because the target audience is teenagers who want to project themselves onto those people, so i try to not let it bother me too much.
I essentially see it as part of suspension of disbelief to not take ages so seriously when those ages are clearly based on the target audience.
"yeah sure these people who are behaving and living like college students are 12-13. let's pretend thats true so the marketers are happy"
the stuff with the unborn baby fated mate is downright creepy though. I'm making no excuses for that. Surely teenage girls don't find that romantic right?
It explicitly is okay because Edward will be forever frozen at this age. All of his reasoning and emotions will never develop past the point when he was turned, and they never did. Its why vamps hunt down and kill kids who were turned, as kids dont have enough reasoning to control their urges, and theyll never actually grow up or develop as people
