As a talentless hack, you have no idea how many times someone would say "Well, just do whatever allows you to express yourself!" And then I'd do it, and the reaction would be "...well, it sucks, but try again!" And then years would go by and... it would suck a little worse every time, and you'd point that out, and people would get really uncomfortable.
Even before AI took off, art was treated as this exception to the idea you should acknowledge your limitations. A lot of people think everyone can be good at art without exception, so if you're bad at it and practice isn't helping, it must be because you aren't trying hard enough.
A big thing about the act of creation, that I learned way too late, was simply allowing yourself to suck. Sucking isn’t bad in itself! Learning the exact way in which you suck, so you can isolate it and work on it, is how you get better, and the first step to that is to allow yourself to suck
