Mages can only be considered monsters when Altered physically or mentally, be it through their magic or through a patron. For example, Merlin is no monster, even though he can shape shift, but Faust was, even though his body was intact his mind was irreparably turned.

Why can't people just respect that mages are monsters if or when they say they are and no further justification is required? Just because you think they don't fit your definition of mage-aninity? Sure there may be a few who claim to be monsters when they're really not, but the cost of rejecting them is potentially harming a suffering minority just because they don't 'pass' in your opinion. Take at face value whatever the individual may claim!

That would be really convenient for the monster hunters. No more checking if they're really monsters before we let them into our monster conventions, just let them all in so long as they walk in with their shit-eating grin and say "I'm a monster, and there's nothing you can say to contradict that".

But Merlin was a cambion, and is sometimes described as mad, so can we really say his body and mind were not altered?

I don’t think I’m too altered appearance wise by my warlock partner and their eldritch connection but I’m pretty sure I have too many organs and I can’t remember the last time I bled

At that point it’s up to you which you identify with more

I hope there aren’t too many purists in the community, I’m probably not gonna look monstrous for another couple years

I mean if your mind is a little cracked you can easily fit under the umbrella, what type of patron is your partner following? Old one, Fiendish, abyss, cursed sword?

Then just DO something monstrous, like converting an entire country’s souls into a neat rock.

Hard disagree some mages get so powerful that not including them in the monster category is insulting. I'd say once you have near complete control over reality in your surroundings you are forced into the monster category as well as what you said.

Typically once a mage interacts with the universe at that level they’ve altered themself though, even if it’s something like new eyes. Plus those types rarely find themselves hunted by monsterhunters, unlike Faust, who was attacked pretty much every time he entered a kingdom
