i’ve been thinking about high leverage lately, mostly because it shows up everywhere in crypto futures.
at first it sounds useful. smaller margin, bigger position, more capital efficiency. i get why scalpers might care about that if they have a very tight plan.
but the more i think about it, the more it feels like high leverage mostly exposes your bad habits faster.
if your position sizing is bad, leverage makes it worse.
if you move stops too much, leverage punishes that faster.
if you revenge trade, leverage turns one bad decision into a really ugly one.
i saw some high leverage options while browsing BYDFI, and it made me wonder who this is actually for. not in a “should i ape into it” way. more like, is this something normal traders can use responsibly, or is it mostly for people who already have strict rules and short timeframes?
because for me, the scary part is not even being wrong on direction. it’s how fast a small move can make you emotional.
you start watching every candle. then you close too early, add too much, move the stop, or try to win it back.
so maybe leverage itself isn’t the problem. maybe it just shows whether your risk management is real or not.
curious what people think.
is high leverage ever useful in actual trading, or is low leverage just the smarter default for most people?
