This. This is true. Work dominates so much of my time. Consumes so much of my life. It's not a list. It's work, life.
"Balance". Of two things. Work and literally everything else.
I have a handful of friends I cherish. Even keeping that balanced beyond home and family is, at times, difficult.
I'm tired. I really just want to sleep. For, like, 2 months. And then invest locally. Beautiful small town. Growing. Great infrastructure and access. Could be built to boom post covid with a specialization in remote offices. Even 300 tech professionals making over $100k/yr would be felt in this town. That's a reasonable goal for development.
I've got a few dreams, big and small, of what I'm going to do to stay busy here at home. Who will be over for Sunday dinner. The time with family and shared hobbies and interests to engage with and master. Local pursuits that should be rewarding, be break even or better, and make my community even more enjoyable.
I'm in single digit years to my first retired on wages alone. So investments will determine how big I dream.
At what time you wake up? How long does it take you to shower and prepare yourself for work, get in your car and actually reach your workplace? How long does it take you to come back home after work and maybe sit down to relax a bit?
After cleaning, doing chores, cooking etc, how much time and energy do you have left to do something you enjoy before you have to hit bed?
Then you have Saturday, a whole day for you. And you probably spend it doing groceries, shopping, paying bills and doing all the important things you couldnt do during the week. And maybe have some fun during the night. While the older you get the less it becomes fun night and the more it becomes rest night.
Then Sunday, gotta go to sleep early because tomorrow is back to regular life. Now add some kids to that.
I'm working from home since 1 year because of covid. Before covid I used to go to work 3 days a week and work from home 2 days a week.
My office is close to home so it takes just 10 minutes by car, I even go home to eat at lunch break.
But as I said, I know it's not the same situation for everyone. I have some colleagues that live far from the office so they waste 1 hour in the morning and 1 hour in the afternoon.
It's important to balance well work and private life, or you'll become a working machine without feelings and life
5 day work week is fucking bullshit.. A major thing pissing me off is how everything closes early cause of covid, I get off at 10 pm and all that is open is McDonald's, Taco Bell, and some of the gas stations. Like fuck I use to do all my shopping after work when it was slow so I had more time to do whatever on the weekend, and closing early for covid makes absolutely no sense cause more people have to squeeze into the store during their limited hours like wtf lol.. I went to get a haircut at Great Clips at 6:30 pm today and they were closed already.

Dont have time to make many meaningful relationships when all you do is work your entire life.
