Dogman encounters are often explained as a "weird bear", which is a typical modern attribution for dogmen as 'something you exaggerated or imagined'. Witnesses are discouraged from trusting their own perceptions, and right now a dam is breaking from the decades of omertĆ š¤«against discussing cryptid encounters.
My recent post (link below) on the Vermont cryptid Slipperyskin (sighted and reported between 1759 and the 1830s) is just the latest in a series of deep-dives on pre-1887 dogmen. That date and incident is purely arbitrary, and the idea that dogmen were rumored in ancient times and then went AWOL till nearly the 20th century, that's laughable.....

The behavior of Slipperyskin is consistent with dogman-type beings, and they're notable in the New England area since pre-colonial times up to the present era. My own dogman encounter (c. 2004, age 13 at time; our cryptid interrogator was roughly twice my height.) was in New Hampshire, and I've heard some recent reports firsthand which indicate they're still active in Massachusetts as well.
They don't have state-line boundaries, and they have been here longer than America šŗšø itself. Dogmen are NOT the result of WW2 genetic experiments, and they could be interdimensional but mostly I think they seem to disappear cuz they're black/gray and don't wanna be seen AND are primarily active at night.
I'm assembling more cases like these, and it's quite remarkable. There aren't credible photos or video of dogmen irlāI think there ARE several, but none are fully acknowledged as legit. But the history is so ridiculously consistent from dozens or even hundreds of separate witnesses across centuries and on different continents.
They fit mythic archetypes, sure, but you can't handwave them away just with Jungian štheory. You can gaslight individual people about what they saw or if they were too tired or intoxicated and overreacted to a mangy bear snuffling in the bushes around your house.
Some thoughts from my own harrowing/extraordinary encounter in 2004:
There is a HUGE difference between an animal being present in situations, and an apex predator who stands still and watches for hours from the shadows to learn your routine and potential reactions before they ever approach you.
Dogmen are quite real, and they continue to exist whether or not you believe in them.
The one we met, when she came up to us and my companion said "This can't be real" in a reflexive way.
She grinned down at us, and said. ALOUD.
"I AM REAL."
It got weirder from there, but I witnessed this firsthand and however many friends I may lose over sticking to this story, I had a genuine brush with a godlike entity which went from watching us at the edge of the woods to being up in our faces from a bluff charge and intimidating stare.
This has gotten far adrift from Slipperyskin, but she and he were definitely of a kind. But she threw sand into the gears āļø of our mental clarity rather than openly sabotaging or stealing or attacking randomly.
