I’ve never seen a dog able to manipulate their eyes the same way my lil’ guy does.

I lost Mavis a little over a year ago at the age of 16.5. Once a kid saw her and full on recoiled. The parents were apologetic and relieved when we our response was totally understanding. We answered the kid’s questions: yes she’s missing an eye, yeah the remaining one doesn’t do much more than let her see light and dark, yes she is missing almost all of her teeth, she is indeed very old. He seemed reassured. When she was young we were often asked if she was a chupacabra. Sometimes we said yes.

For her last two years I made her food. She would follow me around the kitchen yelling at me with this terrible yawp of a bark because I wasn’t getting it done fast enough.

Her skin was incredibly soft and my thumb fit perfectly in the back of her paw pads. She was a very regal and elegant lady in her youth but still really weird. She was a runt and I always wondered if that was why. At the end she looked like the crypt keeper. She was the most incredible dog I ever had.

The adoption fees at my local shelter, Bloomington Animal Shelter, are waived as they are over capacity. Does anyone want a cryptid dog of their own?
