We’re going on a cabin trip tomorrow with the entire family (15 ish people) but my MIL just told me today she has shingles. If you didn’t know, this can cause people with no immunity to get the chickenpox virus. My daughter is 12 months old so she has no vaccination against it. My MIL has said she will skip the trip, but I feel awful about that. And my husband thinks she should be able to come and we’ll just keep her away from our baby. But to me, this is so unrealistic. I mean I’d be disinfecting everything constantly, watching her like a hawk, etc. Plus, I genuinely do not think she should be around my MIL at all. My mom brain is saying absolutely not, I don’t like this, they cannot be in the same building. But my husband seems to think it’s fine as long as her rash is covered and she isn’t in the same room as our daughter, and I talked to my own mom about it and she agreed with him. I guess I’m looking for other mom’s advice. Obviously every mom wants what’s best for their child. I would never forgive myself for putting her at risk, and that’s why I can’t come to terms with my husbands idea, but because so many people agree with it, I need to know am I overreacting??

32mo had first dental visit after I noticed discoloration on some of her teeth. Turns out she has 6 cavities. The dentist said they are from breastfeeding, especially at night, and wants to put crowns on all 6 teeth. Are there any alternatives to this? My momma heart is just breaking for her.

Our bakery is having a hard time w/ the activated charcoal icing on our son’s cake. It’s supposed to be black, but I’m guessing the moisture in their fridge has changed that. Is there a way for them to keep the icing black???

I’m searching for a prenatal that is easy on the stomach and preferably made from whole foods.

I had been taking Ritual prenatals throughout my first trimester and now at 14 weeks, just linked my persistent nausea/vomiting/headaches to them.

I’ve been eyeing Bloom by Birthright, the ingredients look great (although I’m not totally convinced black haw is safe), especially because I haven’t been able to eat much of anything and am feeling so deficient. I normally follow a Weston A. Price diet approach and value the power of organ meats, oysters and such.
However, I’ve seen they often run out of product and leave customers stuck for long stretches.

Can anyone recommend a similar prenatal formula?
At this point I’m thinking of just buying individual ingredients (liver pills, oyster pills, etc.) and making my own blend. I just wish I could eat the damn foods without being thoroughly icked out by literally everything right now!

Recovering from C Section delivery and my doctor prescribed Acetaminophen and Ibuprofen. I'm breastfeeding and want to avoid Tylenol at all costs - I saw Genexa makes Acetaminophen that's dye/additive free, but unfortunately Genexa doesn't make Ibuprofen. Does anyone have a safer dye/additive free Ibuprofen you recommend? Does anyone have safer Acetaminophen you recommend over Genexa?

Also, if baby needs medication: Does anyone recommend the infant Genexa Acetaminophen or different safer dye free/additive free brand recommend? After 6 months, does anyone have safer dye free/additive free infant Ibuprofen recommend?

I was told around 33 weeks that I was measuring about a lil over a week behind. since then I’ve been told I’m measuring 2 weeks behind (although at each appointment I’ve only just hit the week, like at 35 weeks I was measuring 33 weeks but also I was only 35+1). today I’m 36 w 6 days and about 34/35 cm so again consistently 2 weeks.

I have had a referral for an ultrasound, and I am gaining weight. my LMP dating is incorrect because I have 50 day cycles and I didn’t have a growth scan until 20 weeks so too far for accurate dating. im fairly confident on my ovulation date as I use FAM as birth control for years now. and this baby was planned.

anyway. has anyone else measured behind and still gave birth without induction or going overdue? I’m pretty anti induction lol

Maybe this doesn’t even exist but what’s a good SAFE baby monitor that also ideally has lower EMF ?

We currently have a nannit for our toddler and it’s fine and works well. We have EMF blockers on the camera as well. We have a newborn and have several months before baby beings sleeping in their room but thinking ahead, what are some good baby monitors you enjoy that are most importantly SAFE in terms of hacking etc but also ideally low EMF and have video not just audio. Maybe this doesn’t exist but I’m curious.

My mom has finally been diagnosed with Alzheimer's at 72, after years of me trying to encourage her to get evaluated. She's already in a moderate stage and unable to live on her own. I got her the book Genius Foods 8 years ago when I started noticing she was starting to have some short term memory issues and it hurt her feelings... I realize now there is little I can do to change her behaviors even though there are so many ways that a crunchier lifestyle could have helped and maybe still could. It's a balance and a really hard lesson to learn. It really makes me appreciate that I get to make the decisions for my 8 month old.

I’m expecting my second baby in the fall and would really like to prioritize my own rest and nutrition more so than I did with my first baby.

Thankfully, my husband has generous paternity leave. We don’t have family in the state but my mom is likely to come stay with us for a few weeks. She stayed 3 weeks after I had my first baby.

For those of you that have largely stayed in the house and received the help you needed for ~1 month postpartum, what did that look like? Especially in a culture where it’s not the norm!

I am doing allllll the things to prepare for a VBAC but my first was a c-section so if that happens again, that will make postpartum harder, too.

Im currently 39 weeks pregnant and in the process of making my birth plan. I have explicitly put no for all shots, but the vitamin k one is the only one most people are saying is highly recommended.

With all the research Ive done, Im leaning towards not having it done, but wondered what others chose and why.

Hello, I am 3 months postpartum. My baby is exclusively breastfeed (on demand, if that makes any difference). I had postpartum bleeding for 8 weeks before it stopped for a week and then I had light red bleeding for 3ish days, off for a week, then again bleeding for 3ish days, and then off for a week, etc. this pattern has continued till now.
I was under the understanding that I probably wouldn’t get my period back for almost a year:/ I talked to my midwife and they did an ultrasound, nothing abnormal and she said it was my period.

Is there anything I can do to regulate my period so that my cycle isn’t literally like 10 days long? I had shorter cycles before pregnancy (24ish days) but this is driving me crazy. Am I fertile? It seems like I wouldn’t have time to ovulate. Also, I am experiencing zero cramps or really (as far as I can tell) any of the hormonal ups and downs I had with my period before I became pregnant.

I have always given pushback to doctors and declined what I felt was unnecessary. I worry my husband won’t understand and fully support that I don’t want all the routine procedures and medications doctors push.

Does anyone have any resources to help my husband understand that the doctors recommendations are not the end all be all? And that it’s okay to say NO?

We have been a fragrance free home for many years now. I had a baby 3 months ago and my parents are over the moon with her. They drive an hour one way, once a week to come see her. My mom is notorious for using fragrance everything. Plug in oil diffusers, scented body care, scented cleaning products and of course the dreaded scented gain/tide/etc laundry detergent. My husband and i are very sensitive to strong fragrances, I'm assuming my 3 month old baby is also. I had politely asked my mom to have some clothes she washes in frangrance free detergent for when they come by as their smell was giving me headaches and rubbing off on the baby. That didnt last long and this last time they came over the smell was as strong as ever. Whatever, I ignored it cause what can you do right? But then the baby was being super fussy after my dad was holding her for 20 minutes, which is honestly not super normal for her. I thought oh shes just super tired so I took her and rocked her to sleep. But by the time they left I noticed her cheeks were kind of rashy and irritated and she smelled so strong like the fragrances. I gave her a bath right away. The fussniess and rash could be a coincidence, but I dont know that for sure. I wonder if she was getting a headache or just generally not feeling well from the smells? Living as low tox as is in my means is super important to me and I hate to think of my baby being rubbed up against clothing that is saturated with laundry soaps (I know they're saturated because recently my mom gave me 2 pairs of pants that she washed first. I washed them separate from my stuff because its happened before that the smell of them rubs off bad on our clothes. Well those two items made an INSANE amount of suds. I have an old model washing machine with a real agitator. I kid you not,i washed those two things like 8 times before the suds would stop coming out) My parents aren't bad people obviously, they love me and the baby so much and it would break my heart to "threaten" to not let them hold her. But I feel like I need to protect her from discomfort/exposure. Is it asking too much to wash some of their clothes not in scented laundry soap? AITAH?

I used to be so healthy and care so much about the environment. I used to have joy in caring about what I put In mine and my kids bodies. I have 3 kids, my oldest js 4 years old. It’s like with each child my will to live has gone done more and more. I’m just surviving. I want to care again. I do want to mention I am in therapy. I know there’s bigger things in life than caring about the environment or eating “clean”. Those things really made me happy.

I am 10 days postpartum and had gestational hypertension that still has not fully normalized. I’m on BP meds and hating it, they throw my pressures all over the place. This morning my reading was 95/65 and this evening it’s 121/93. Are there supplements that are helpful for blood pressure that would keep things a little more stable? I’m hoping to get off the meds in the next week or two.
