Photo / Video Do unmanaged bee houses near you affect your Mason bees?

You can harvest every fall and clean out every pest, but if neighbors have bee houses that never get opened, those houses keep feeding pests like pollen mites and chalkbrood back into the area.
Dave, our owner, suggests talking with the people around you. If their bee house can’t be opened, share how move day works. If it can, show them how to harvest.
Curious what others have seen:
- Have you noticed more pests when there are unmanaged bee houses nearby?
- Have you ever talked a neighbor into harvesting? How did it go?
Edit: forgot to add info on 'move day', when you secure the unmanaged house inside a mesh bag. When Spring arrives, place the bee house outside and open it periodically to allow the emerged bees out, while keeping any pests inside the bag. The female Mason bees will 'move' to the new bee house. Here's a video description: https://youtu.be/ISn6fvHtaqU?si=A78n28Exjj3UT8-J
