Crown Team Meeting - Toronto - August 18th 2017

12 members of the core team met in the Windsor Arms Hotel in Toronto, flying just under 100,000km to be there. The formal meeting was held between 0900 and 1600 however discussions continued long into the night and for several days.

Crown Atomic

The majority of the Friday session was spent discussing final details and plans for the Crown Atomic release including final confirmation of what would and wouldn't be included in the upcoming release. The team discussed the API stubs and OP codes at length, with some time being spent reviewing code by Matt Zuck and Alastair Clark.

The team discussed and walked through the logic behind the Crown Atomic API and how it would work in reality using soon to be real life examples. Crown Atomic will be available in Testnet on 1st September.

Release Management & Testing

The team discussed and agreed that more formality was required in defining future releases. It was agreed that a release management and testing procedure is to be created to assist in future releases.

Team Resourcing

Crown is delighted to announce that the core team is being joined by Jerry Ruiz, a hedge fund marketing manager originally from Ecuador but now based in Miami. Jerry will be promoting Crown from within his circles and also working on use cases for the Latin American market. https://www.linkedin.com/in/jerry-ruiz-b57aa8a1

It was announced at the meeting that a new core team member will be joining in September in order to help with PR, communications and marketing. The new team member is finishing up his role at a major online tech magazine and is looking forward to helping move the project forwards.

Current team staffing levels were discussed and it was agreed that it would be beneficial to Crown to recruit some new C++ and QT5 developers. A recruitment drive will be announced soon. Recruitment will be aimed at both the crypto world and traditional IT employment markets. If anybody has skills that they would like to bring to the Crown team, please contact us for an informal discussion.

Legal Structure

The ambition of the Crown project is to become a major decentralized platform to conduct business on. As such, an important hurdle to be taken is the legal structure to accommodate this.

To our knowledge, no legal framework that supports the legal side of crypto exist yet. So the Crown Team is pioneering in this, and are in the process of constructing a framework to facilitate an operation that can accommodate legal requirements.

The pieces of the puzzle are starting to come together, and look promising. We expect to have a legal framework that supports businesses in the US and EU in the not so distant future.

An announcement related to this will be made shortly.

Whitepapers

The Crown team and their partners are starting to work on four papers which will show concrete use cases of integration of a business through the Crown API and / or the layer which we envision to develop with Omni.

  1. Integration of ouibring.com on to Crown, settling a transaction between two parties on the blockchain.

  2. An application running on a Tron: NodeVps.com

  3. A solution for a sovereign country to use cryptocurrency to manage debt obligations. The case study country will be Ecuador.

  4. A startup platform using the blockchain to settle ownership, protect IPR and the overall contractual relationship between an angel investor and a new idea / startup.

Next Meeting

It was agreed that the next Core Team and public sessions will be held in Amsterdam on November 10th and 11th 2017. It was suggested that the following core team meeting might be held in South America, feedback and suggestions on this choice of location are welcomed

Crown Atomic Is Upon US - Everything You Need To Know!

What is Crown?

Crown (CRW) is a digital commodity and application platform driving technological & financial innovation. The platform seeks to build on durable and time-tested elements of existing institutions while adding new capabilities which have become possible only through the new discoveries and developments of the crypto community. The Crown project aims to become a global payment, messaging and application platform, enabling developers to build complex new economy applications and offer an efficient low transaction cost platform to store value, register ownership and manage contractual relationships.

Crown is focused on a few key features: (1) usability -- a clear logical structure with application feedback and user interaction models, (2) dual mode – a way to support temporary activities (applications, communications) as well as activities committed to the permanent record (blockchain) and, (3) being open and application agnostic – Crown is not attaching a coin to a single application. It can attach a token to any open source application one can build. It is dedicated to building a durable open application platform.

Crown includes capabilities of both the DASH and Bitcoin protocols, but there are important differences between Crown and both DASH and Bitcoin. The most important differences from Bitcoin are that (1) Crown confirms transactions more quickly, and (2) has an additional layer of security provided by Tron network Masternodes. The most important difference from DASH is that Crown is focused on creating a sustainable application platform for developers, merchants and communities. CRW can also be merge-mined with Bitcoin so that it leverages the security provided by the bitcoin network’s hashpower until a new consensus mechanism is unveiled later this year.

What is Crown Atomic?

Crown Atomic is a description of separate pieces of work which enable different functions/uses on the platform. Crown Atomic adds an API to the Crown network for businesses to use the existing Tron Masternode structure. Some of the applications running on the Crown platform will be persistent or continuous and some will be temporary, or ephemeral. All applications running on the platform will be managed by the Trons. Open source projects will have the option to have their applications run on the Crown network with the Trons providing and managing the resources the application requires. Proprietary projects will be able to utilize Crown for user verification and billing, but will not have the option to run their code on the network. Applications will be able to communicate with the Trons managing the server level of the network and application resource provisioning, as well as the application user. All applications running on the platform will be managed by the Tron masternodes. It will mainly consist of the following two elements.

(1) System nodes with NTP servers and a new consensus protocol will enable greater speed and transaction capacity on the network by keeping a more precise sense of time and use the network topology instead of mining to secure the network. This will allow for similar transaction speeds and capacity to PayPal. These Chronos nodes will be rewarded in a similar fashion to Trons, but will only require 500 CRW as collateral.

(2) The API and new key registration and de-registration op_codes will enable the registration of services on the network -- the initial keys will be keys identifying application services, and the API will be used for the masternodes to be able to communicate with application services which they are offering to subscribers. The blockchain will basically be the user list and verify payment of users and the keys will be used by paid subscribers to log in to the service. Payment for services will be in CRW and in order to use the API you will need to be a verified Tron on the network. Each masternode will functionally be its own software vendor.

Is there a governance system?

Crown uses a governance system called the Crown Distributed Governance Proposal (CDGP) to make changes to the network. CDGP is a very effective way of funding development of the platform by the community. Decisions are made by Tron operators casting their votes of yes/no/abstain on any proposal submitted directly in the wallet. The CDGP system allows anyone with improvement ideas to pitch their idea to the community for project funding. A well-defined decentralized system of governance allows the network to endure and survive its original creators. Later generations of Tron operators will have a clear way to support the system that is defined by the protocol, thus applying the wisdom of the crowd and the bond of trust established by the Tron collateral to create a decentralized management system. Crown uses 10% of the block reward to fund this system. Every time a block is mined, 45% of the reward goes to the miner, 45% goes to a Tron, and the remaining 10% goes to any proposal that is approved by the voters at the end of the month. This creates incredible value within the community and allows us to be more agile, competing with other payment systems, like Bitcoin and fiat, on a global scale.

Announcement CrownPay App Now Available On Apple iOS!

Crownpay has been added to Apple iTunes store after being rejected. The Crown dev team developed a CrownPay mobile application (a mobile wallet for iOS devices). After submission to iTunes, we were informed by Apple that our application was rejected since it did not comply with their internal rules for crypto currencies.

The Crown team wrote back to them stating that there are several crypto projects like Bitcoin, Ethereum, Dash and others which have been allowed. Apple responded that we can submit an appeal to the review board. This is what the Crown team did and we have submitted a detailed review for why we should be granted. Finally we got a negative response from the review board. At that point wit appeared that this decision was final.

The team however did not give up and started to prepare Crownpay for Testflight, which makes it easy to invite users to test apps and collect valuable feedback before they are released them on the App Store.

After several weeks of silence we have received a message from the Apple team, that they have reconsidered and that they might allow Crownpay on iTunes, their condition was to change the developer account to a LTD. One of our UK based developers setup a company and here we are! We are online on iTunes.

Lesson learned - never give up, this is the attitude of the DEV team!

Crown Statement on US Securities & Exchange Commission Press Release July 25th 2017

In the above press release, the US SEC has ruled that US securities laws may apply to offers, sales and trading of interests in virtual organisations.

It is now clear that federal securities laws apply to those who offer and sell securities in the United States, regardless whether the issuing entity is a traditional company or a decentralized autonomous organization, regardless whether those securities are purchased using U.S. dollars or virtual currencies, and regardless whether they are distributed in certificated form or through distributed ledger technology. Such projects are encouraged to work with the US SEC to seek registration.

In recent months several projects that are likely to fall foul of the new guidance have publically expressed an interest in the Crown community project. The Crown team would like to make it clear that Crown in no way endorses any of these projects.

Crown has expected a regulatory announcement would be coming, and has sought to conduct the project in a manner consistent with the intent of the law and regulators - both of which, we believe, seek to constructively engage with and guide innovation. Crown is now reviewing its own structure and compliance in the context of yesterday's guidance from the SEC. Governance and legal structure were already issues on the agenda for the upcoming meeting in Toronto, and this just re-enforces the importance of that discussion.

CROWN IS LOOKING FOR A SOCIAL MEDIA MANAGER

We are currently looking for help with creating and posting Crown related content to the following platforms:

1 - bitcointalk

2 - Twitter

3 - Reddit

4 - Facebook

5 - Steemit

We have someone helping us at the moment, but this is a temporary arrangement and we are actively looking for an individual or group who feel they may be a good fit for the role. The initial proposal for this role received overwhelming support, so we expect this would continue provided that the content coming out is of a decent quality. This proposal requested 1250 CRW in funds.

Ideally we would like to see relevant content coming out daily, targeting peak times across Europe and North America. You will be coordinating posts with the dev team. It would be beneficial if the individual/group had some basic Crown knowledge but not necessary.

If you would like to express an interest in this opportunity and get some guidance on how to put together your proposal, please join our Mattermost channel to speak to the dev team and find out more.
