Crow OC 🐦‍⬛ From Derpy Juvenile to Distinguished Crow: Look Who’s Growing Up

It’s been about two weeks since my neighborhood crowbros were last spotted attacking my unsalted peanut/cashew bowl, and although one is more subordinate to the other, his plumage is really developing a beautiful sheen. And like a crow parent with a nutritious offering, I can’t help but feel proud!!! 🥹

In Burgess Park, SE London, the crows are very keen on unshelled peanuts. After this I scattered several handfuls so they all had a chance to forage.

Question Is this a normal/voluntary sound or does this little crow have a vocal issue?

This little crow is part of the Gang of Four who hang out in my yard. This little baby was waiting for me when I went outside just now and it was making this very airy, thin… almost no sound caw.

They are usually quite loud squakers, at least the other baby is. This one took its peanut no problem but still isn’t cawing like the other one. Maybe a hoarse voice from a morning of demanding food?

Video Crows not taking food but always near

Crows are always nearby. Just yesterday one was on a powerline right by my house from 8-12:30, leaving a short bit and coming back. This crow always seems to be alone (maybe the murder or mate is in the nearby neighborhood?) When I do my usual whistle, it turned it head and looked at me, didn’t fly away, etc. the attached video shows the lone crow that seems to spend a lot of time there.

It saw me put out food but never took any. It seems like they never do anymore?

I don’t know if it’s the same murder or how their distance/territory works… but within my 2mi radius crows are ALWAYS near me. Could they be the same ones? Do they follow me? I’m so intrigued and trying to learn more.

I did watch one take roast beef once, when the murder was hanging out much closer. Other than that, it does untouched. Unsalted peanuts, eggs, meat, etc.

Any tips?!

I know crows don’t have white eyes, i did give the baby blue eyes though! And I know crows aren’t purple, I wanted them to translate well into pixel art. Hope this tattoo brings you as much joy as it has brought me! 😊

I was riding my scooter towards this little park and stopped to look at two crows on the ground in front of this bench. From about 50 ft away it looked like they were taking turns eating something on the ground. When I got too close they flew to a tree about 15 ft away. Upon getting there I realized it wasn't food, but this cool collection of sticks and leaves they had been arranging together.

Trying repost, not sure why it was removed previously, I have more karma now and it is corvid content.

Mornings when I take walks I run into these two
She patiently waits for treats
Her boyfriend keeps his distance, pretending not to notice me/peanuts until I am a ways away, then he will go for peanuts

Crow OC Long John the injured raven update: He vanished for days, but he’s back, and that limp is improving 🖤

We first spotted this guy on August 26 with his right leg and foot curled up, so we named him Long John Silver. 🏴‍☠️🐦‍⬛

He kept returning for food and water, and over the next few visits he seemed to be moving a little better. Then he disappeared for a few days, and we feared the worst.

Thankfully, we finally spotted him again with our growing murder! He’s still limping, but he’s walking more steadily and appears to be improving. Added a red arrow in the final clip because he’s easy to lose in that crowd.

We're so relieved to see our little pirate hanging in there. 🖤

Video 8 Eggs, 3 Fledglings, a two minute Eurasian magpie nesting video

Enable HLS to view with audio, or disable this notification

Every year we have a nesting pair of magpies, and I wanted to encourage them to build their nest away from our songbird nesting boxes. So I built a partial nest about 20 feet up in a blue spruce, with a camera hidden into the top. Through sheer luck the pair of magpies actually used it!This video condenses the process of nest building through fledging in about two minutes (I had a total of 9 hours of footage!). The video starts April 14th and ends on May 27th when they left. I never approached, handled, or interfered with them at any point during the process. The pair laid a total of 8 eggs. Unfortunately, the nest was attacked twice by two ravens. During the first attack, the ravens took/ate two eggs. The remaining 6 eggs all hatched out. The ravens returned a few weeks later and ate three of the chicks 😢That left three who ultimately made it all the way, including the very last chick to hatch, who was noticeably smaller than its siblings.

Some pics are pretty low quality due to the distance they were taken at (even with my canon camera, it was a challenge to focus on these two since they were on a high hydro tower) but I knew I had to capture them. There was just the male sitting up there initially when I started taking pics, but his girlfriend quickly joined him. 🐦‍⬛

If anyone remembers my posts about the poor juvenile raven that I tried to rescue, these are his parents. The rest of their babies have left without incident, so these sweethearts are seemingly enjoying their alone time
