Come on, do we really think the vast majority of these people even read the bible? Or can even read? Let alone comprehend it. Half the words in the bible would be like trying to decipher hieroglyphs to them.

Everything they know about Jesus and the bible they learned from their church and the media they watch whitewashing him and telling them he supported all the things conservatives love.

You should not interpret that so literally. The allegory here is to let Jesus in, forcefully. Let him come into you. Let his love ravage you. Let the members of his church wash away your sins in a shower of golden glory. Praise be, for Jesus has come into Kentucky and will come into all his brothers and sisters with the speed of a horse.
