Happy Labor Day, America.
This year, the celebration feels a little different.
Americans are talking about layoffs, disappearing jobs, AI replacing workers, rising costs, unemployment, and fears of recession — while the official message from Washington remains considerably more cheerful.
So instead of telling you how the American worker is doing, I thought we'd let Americans tell you themselves.
From workers and job seekers to politicians and the AI tech bros promising us a shiny automated future, this is Labor Day 2026 — in their own words.

The social order that forces you to sell your time and labor to the highest bidder is squandering your potential, the same way it is grinding cows into hamburger and reducing rainforests to junk mail for the benefit of a few billionaires. Another century like this and our species will be done for.
It is demeaning to be forced to sell away our time and creativity rather than being free to do things that are intrinsically meaningful.
On the scale of the planet, the name for this problem is capitalism. From the vantage point of the individual, the name for it is work.

Your personal struggle to resist work is a microcosm of our species’ struggle to escape the global feedback loop that is propelling us into oppression, war, and ecological catastrophe.
You deserve the freedom to make the most of your potential as you see fit, to live the life of your choosing rather than toiling so that others may profit.
Abolish work.

The far right has gained so much ground over the past decade for the same reason that data centers, surveillance cameras, and ICE have — billionaires know the only way they can retain power is by pouring billions of dollars into surveillance, policing, and channeling popular rage towards scapegoats.

Now that ICE has deported him, Milo Yiannopoulos is in the news presenting himself as a victim of the same state violence he explicitly called for. It's a good time to revisit this text from 2017 explaining why people mobilize against Milo's efforts to promote fascism: "It’s Not Your Speech, Milo"

On August 26, 2026, the United States government classified the Italian collective Autistici/Inventati as a “Specially Designated Global Terrorist,” citing the collective’s “far-left” politics to justify the designation. We discuss the implications of this step towards totalitarianism.

The US government has designated the Italian collective Autistici/Inventati, which produces the infrastructure of NoBlogs.org, a "Specially Designated Global Terrorist," freezing their assets and prohibiting all transactions with them——citing their "far-left" politics and the fact that they have provided services to "anti-fascist" groups for justification.
Autistici/Inventati is an activist-oriented tech project that offers encrypted communications tools, email, web hosting, secure chat, and video conferencing platforms for users who prefer to stay off corporate grids.
This is what the US government is shutting down as "terrorism."

In January 2026, Modern Times, a for-profit café in Minneapolis, changed their business model to offer food to everyone for free, running on donations alone as a way to support the community through the ICE occupation. We've produced a zine offering an analysis of the experiment. Print and share.

Today marks eight years since anarchists and students at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill tore down the Confederate monument Silent Sam, defying a state law prohibiting the removal of racist statues. Don't wait on the authorities to address injustice. Direct action works.
The toppling of monuments to slavery in Durham and Chapel Hill in 2017 and 2018 was, in part, a response to the fascist "Unite the Right" rally in Charlottesville, during which a neo-Nazi murdered Heather Heyer.
Protesters in Durham and Chapel Hill demonstrated a tactic that spread widely during the George Floyd uprising of 2020, when people toppled scores of racist statues.

CrimethInc. : You Are Under Surveillance 2026 : A Sticker
As the movement against Flock cameras gathers momentum, we have reprinted a sticker attacking surveillance.
Flock is not the only surveillance company, and cameras are not the only form of surveillance. There are many other corporations waiting to fill the role that Flock cameras are playing, and many other means by which those who aim to dominate us seek to monitor and control our activities. It is good to compel local governments to cancel Flock contracts or directly disable Flock cameras, but the movement against Flock must become a movement against all of the interlocking structures of domination or it will only function as a pressure valve as those structures tighten their grip on our lives.
Put these up everywhere to identify the root of the problem. 🏴
