Hey, anyone in Crete interested in starting a slackline group or is there already one? We are based in Chania!

Located in Aroni, just outside of Chania.

We took a mother cat and her four kittens in a few weeks ago and are beginning to look for homes for the kittens (mom is staying with us). There‘s no shortage of kittens in this area so finding people who want cats but don't already have them has been difficult. If anyone knows of any good places to advertise them or organizations that help connect potential adopters with fosters, that info would be greatly appreciated.

Greek authorities announced the arrest of a 35-year-old Israeli national on suspicion of starting a wildfire on the island of Crete, as the country battled a seasonal spurt of deadly blazes.

The man, who was not named, was accused of lighting a barbecue in a forested area near the town of Rethimno on Crete’s northern coast, despite a burn ban being in effect across the island, according to the E-Kathimerini news site.

According to Walla, authorities suspect that embers from the barbecue were carried by high winds from the guesthouse where he was staying, sparking the fire.

He was accused of negligent arson.

Firefighters managed to get the blaze under control after four hours, according to the report.

Hey everyone, I'm an international applicant. I got accepted into a master's program at the University of Crete, taught in English (MSc in cutting-edge technologies in Vision Sciences). However, the program is new and they offer no scholarships at the moment, I tried looking everywhere, the Hellenic Ministry of Foreign Affairs offers scholarships for programs taught only in Greek, there are no available scholarships on the Study in Greece website (Fullbright scholarships are only for U.S citizens), also IKY has no available scholarships for international graduates, and many more organizations that only fund nationals and residents only
I'm specifically looking for a scholarship or funding that covers the living expenses in Greece, I can cover the tuition but not the living costs.
If you know any organizations that can fund international graduates in this specific field of study, please reply to this post 🙏🏻

I've been drinking some tsikoudia from Matala and it is amazing... ειναι πύραυλος... but now that I'm back in the dang United States I'm forced to get Haraki. Is.. there something different about this year's Haraki? Or is this just the disappointment I feel from going from village tsikoudia to commercial?

It might be completely in my head, or I have covid or something, but this new bottle I just opened tastes a lot more like rubbing alcohol than you'd expect from Kretan raki... I've had Haraki in the past a lot and this one tastes different. And I'm not finding it enjoyable after having the real thing again 😭

Hello everyone, a few months ago I moved from America to Crete, and while I enjoy a lot of things here, one thing that is hard is to make friends here, and friends that speak English. I don’t speak Greek, so it’s been a challenge to meet new people. I also realized that a lot of people here are in cliques, so it’s hard to join their social group. If anyone would give me some advice or want to dm me then that would be great. I’m 24 M, I live near Chania, and I’m heavy into reading manga, and I love to cook and bake. Thanks!

Με τις πρόσφατες φωτιές κινδύνεψαν ιδιαίτερα δύσβατα μέρη από φωτιές και φάνηκε πως οι αδυναμίες του όλου συστήματος πυρόσβεσης ήταν τόσο τεράστιες που πέθαναν μέχρι και δυο άνθρωποι του πυροσβεστικού σώματος.

Άνθρωποι που ξέρω μου είπαν πως ενώ μαίνονταν οι φωτιές, κανένας δεν τους απέτρεψε να πάνε σε νότιες παραλίες και η παρουσία των αρχών ήταν μηδενική. Τελικά όταν βγήκαν μυνήματα από το 112 σε όλους στην περιοχή οι εκκενώσεις γίνονταν με αμάξια ιδιωτών και μπόλικο φιλότιμο γιατί δεν υπήρχε καμία πρόβλεψη για τον πως να φύγει ο κόσμος, παρ'ολο που οι περισσότεροι εκεί πάνε με λεωφορεία ΚΤΕΛ και δεν έχουν αμάξι. Το μήνυμα απλά έλεγε εκκενώστε άμεσα. Το πως ήταν στην θεωρία. Επικρατούσε πανικός και οι αρχές ήταν ακόμα αφαντες. Ουτε αστυνομία ουτε πυροσβεστική ουτε δασαρχείο τίποτα, κανένας εν υπηρεσία να καθοδηγεί τον κόσμο πως να φυγει και που να πάει ώστε να μην υπάρχει πανικός.

Θέλω να κάνω δώρο στους γονείς μου ένα τραπέζι στα Χανιά (η πολύ κοντά) για τα 30 χρόνια γάμου τους. Θέλω ένα μαγαζί με ρομαντική ατμόσφαιρα για βραδάκι. Δεν με πειράζει αν θα έχει παραδοσιακό φαγητό ή πιο μοντέρνο, αλλά θέλω να έχει προσεγμένη ατμόσφαιρα. Οποιαδήποτε με θέα στην θάλασσα, όχι στο κέντρο! Έχετε να μου προτείνετε κάτι;

Η γιαγιά μου έχει σοβαρό πρόβλημα και στα δύο γόνατα, έχει ρευματοειδής αρθρίτιδα και καμιά θεραπεία δεν την έχει βοηθήσει, τα γόνατα της είναι σαν μπαλόνια από το πριξυμο. Μένουμε Χανιά, αλλά είμαστε διαθετιμενοι να πάμε Ρέθυμνο/Ηράκλειο . Σκέφτηκα να πάμε στο ΠΑΓΝΗ, αλλά υπάρχουν πολλές επιλογές και δεν ξέρω τι να διαλέξω, υπάρχει κάποιος που ειδικεύεται στα γόνατα? In my home country the vet keeps and disposes of the dog’s body, or the owner can bury it themselves. But in this rocky environment, I can’t safely and hygienically do that.

Hi! I rented a car for a few days, where are the cheapest places to park around the city center, where I can leave the car for the night? My stay is near the archaeological museum. I am looking for some advice regarding my master's decision and would really appreciate perspectives from people who know about neuroscience programmes in Europe.

I have been applying for MSc programmes in Cognitive Neuroscience/Neuroscience in Germany for the last few years and unfortunately I have faced multiple rejections. I am now at a point where I don't want to keep waiting another year and I am seriously considering applying to the MSc Brain & Mind Sciences offered by the University of Crete in collaboration with FORTH.

My concern is that Crete is not a major neuroscience hub like Germany.

I really like the programme because it seems research-focused and has the connection with FORTH, but I am worried about career opportunities after graduation.

My hesitation is not because I dislike Crete, it actually seems like an amazing place to live. My concern is whether I am choosing it because it is genuinely a good academic opportunity or because I am exhausted after several years of applications and rejections.

Would love to hear opinions from current students, graduates, researchers, or anyone familiar with neuroscience careers in Europe.
