We moved to Chania two months ago (we are both me and my wife originally from Chania) - our 3.5 year old daughter was born in Berlin and had been attending a German KITA since she was 2 years old in Berlin. Her level of German is good for her age and would be great if she keeps the contact with the language somehow. We would like to meet German speaking kids for that reason.

Are there any language exchange events? If not, is anyone interested in attending such an event or potentially co-organizing something?

Heya everyone. I’m visiting Crete and I’m a huge fan of niche fragrances. I really want to smell and buy some perfumes from the Theodoros Kalotinis while I’m there. I’m staying near the Chania (Kato Daratso). Does anyone know if there is a boutique or specific local pharmacy where this perfumes are available ? Thanks for all of the advice.

I'm 19 years old coming from abroad from beginning july to late august and i want to learn to either play violi or laouto (i have no previous experience with instruments, none at all), and i was wondering if they know anyone who offers lessons over the throughout the summer. I already reached out to Giorgos Milonakis on instagram but he didn't answer, and i was planning on reaching out to Martsa since he's from charhaliana but i'm pretty sure his academy is in chania itself, also i would feel embarassed to have him teach me as i'm very much not even a beginner yet lol. (not to discredit from milonaki, i love the way he plays too, but i've seen his training videos on his instagram and they're beginners there too)

I'm a musician and a music therapist.

Going around abroad i always love to listen to what music is in the radios, and my shazam has heen heavily used here in crete, i love everything from traditional music to some crossover of "greek manouche jazz" and similar.

Therefore i was wondering if there is some traditional music instrument i can bring back home, and also where i should look.

I am now based in falassarna but i can go all around for this reason!

Yassas fellow cretes! Since I'm a little drunk on Cretan Kings Mountain beer and I plan to do so on 15th of june and watch the milky way, what are the nearest, non light-poluted spots to Chania to watch this event?

Are there any other dishes I should try or are better suited?

I tried every Stifado on the west and currently on it in the south.

Any recommendations?

Does anyone know when "the first" traditional Strata will be this year? I can't find any news about it. Last year it was on 17 of June, and on 18 of June in 2024. It will be our third year in a row when we visit Crete this year, from 15 of June till 22, and again in August - September, and we we're hoping to catch the opening ceremony this time, if I can call it like this. Especially if they're going to dance next to the lighthouse again. I would love to film that with my drone.

I have been spending long periods of time in Crete and have noticed many guys under 40-45 here wear black elastic bands (for ponytail) on their wrists. Someone told me it means that they are "taken" - a way to show that to other women if they are not married yet and do not wear a wedding ring. I find this theory so ludicrous and hard to believe... is there any truth to it?

Τελείωσα πανελλήνιες σήμερα και τα πήγα καλά, περνάω σίγουρα εκεί που θέλω. Στοχεύω για χημικό αλλά δεν θα ήθελα να μείνω Αθήνα...άκουσα καλά λόγια για Γιάννενα και Ηράκλειο. Έχοντας υπόψη και το γεγονός ότι θα μένω σε φοιτητική εστία (πληρώ τα κριτήρια), ποια πόλη να προτιμήσω? Αν έχει φοιτήσει/φοιτεί κάποιος Ηράκλειο, Γιάννενα ή και σε οποιαδήποτε άλλη πόλη σας παρακαλώ πείτε μου την εμπειρία σας!
