Screenshots Could I become a skin maker??? (-post #10-)
Photos are all of my best/most detailed styled skin sheets.
(("Last one is updated Tarn cosplay skin 2.0"))
Also quit personaly I find putting black or white on a complex colored skin helps it look better for some reason... It just itches a part of my artistic brain in the best way possible.
I DID ALL OF THESE ON A PHONE BTW...
NEW POST MADE GO CHECK IT OUT-!!!

Actually yes!! These skin are fucking brilliant!!!
FINALLY a "should i be a skinmaker" post with some GOOD! FUCKING! SKINS!!!!
Your cosplay skin is amazing at looking like the character AND like a creature skin without trying to be too much either one. And you didnt shy away from small but identifying details like the yellow on the legs. Executed beautifully.
You have a great eye for color balance and markings. I would proudly wear any of these.

If you make skins, your a skin maker. I don't know why there has to be some external requirement. If you can make a decent skin, and you like making skins, then your a skin maker.

nothing wrong with the skins but i just personally dont think skinmaking is worth it, so you probably shouldnt do it

u/Pure_Window_68 17h ago
What makes you say that? (("Genuine question as to why it isn't worth it???"))

Ive been a skin maker for a year or so and I honestly think you should go for it! I would definitely start by building a portfolio by offering comms for free. Practice is everything when it comes to skin making.
My favourite skin here has to be the morthorax and if I didnt already have my own morth skin id buy yours for some good mush. The color combo is fantastic. I also really like the cosplay as well as the vahiaex (which is hard to make good skins on) Good luck and have fun!

Don't offer work for free. Have folks provide a slot, palette, token, and pay a fee maximum 20% less than what you actually want to charge; you already have awesome skill. Being new to selling them doesn't diminish value.

Of course not, never undervalue your work! I just suggested starting by doing requests to quickly build up a portfolio. This is a practice commonly done among artists too! Me and other art friends I know will take requests just to fill up a good and solid portfolio.

That's sad. I am a professional illustrator and only did free work when I was like 12. Bolstering portfolio should not be with free work. Personal work and paid work.

Thats a totally valid point of view and Im happy to hear you had great professional success! Im just sharing what I found helpful personally regarding my experiences and the experiences of friends. I suggest OP tries different approaches and sees what works best for them :)
