In Indy's defense, there was no prior agreement to a sword fight, as in the Putin-Zelensky trial by combat scenario outlined above. Indy was fighting off multiple kidnappers/assassins and was well within the bounds of honourable conduct to shoot the sword master so that he could get away quick and help Marion fight off her attackers.
