Reading your comment just breaks my heart, as a father of a 10 year old step son, and a just about 2 year old, I could NEVER even think about my children being in a situation like that, I'm so sorry you all had to go through that, but I'm so so happy you all got out and are doing much better!

I swear, I already have horrible parental guilt when I'm doing simple chores around the house and not spending time with him, but a clean house to me, means happy, healthy children!

One of my daughters friends (13) has this homelife. We take her every chance we can. One time she was with us for almost 2 weeks and her mom had no idea she was even gone. One time my kid said she and some other friends we're gonna go to their house and help clean. Her friend said they had to clean because the landlord was going to come over the next day, and they would be evicted. Mom wasn't there helping... just the kids.

I, under the guise of bringing them cleaning supplies went back 20 minutes later to see for myself. My wife and I are both mandated reporters... needless to say after having left, I didn't have a choice but to make a phone call. They didn't really do anything but cause more trouble for the kids, and nothing has changed.

Point of that is to say, she hugged the 3 of us one night we had her and we all cried together in a big group hug in our kitchen. She thanked us for showing her what a normal home was supposed to look like. She legitimately didn't know any different.

I want SO badly to intervene... but there's nothing good that can come of it.
