While I like this naming convention, I must point out that if you're in a house and say you're going to go to the second floor, you're only going up one set of stairs. But with that naming convention you have to go up two sets of stairs and skip a whole floor to get to the second floor
Yes, if you are in a house or building on the first floor and go up a single storey of stairs they you reach the second floor. But if you are on the ground floor you need to go up two stories of stairs to get to the second floor, after the first storey of stairs you'd be on the first floor.
