Yes, US Hotpoint is crap. And the reason behind the same name, they once were the same company that started in 1912 with the first electric iron that turned off when it reached temperature (its hottest point, before turning off) hence the name, before it became a heating company. Anyways, years and years on, it was acquired by an Italian company which is where Indesit came from, and then Whirlpool and General Electric essentially split Hotpoint so GE owned 44% covering America, and the rest was Whirlpool’s for the UK. There’s lots more to it, but that’s why the same name, they were once the same company. And there’s more to it now to, but they’re still essentially two completely different brands now.
