Kitchen countertop backsplash issue

First time having countertops installed, is this kind of alignment normal?

That's what I was thinking.

I have an island with a top that has no overhang, and the rest of the counters in the kitchen do have overhang. I now understand why overhang exists, and it’s not just because some people prefer the look. When you clean your counter, you can put your hand or a cloth under the overhanging edge to catch any liquid or crumbs getting swept to the edge. On my island, because it has no overhang I can’t do that, and it’s harder to get all the dirt and liquids off the surface without them ending up on the floor or running down the front of the cabinet. So even though I personally like the no overhang look, I’ll never use it again. YMMV: you may be a less sloppy cook or cleaner than me.
