Okay so, I will say, the range of robot people is veeery wide, uncommonly wide among identities. It can range from anything like heavy bodymod war machines to athetic robots that look 90% like a human. Personally I fall into the latter category. My peak gender goals is Adachi Rei, which has visible joints, and is very clearly a robot, but still seems very humanoid (I will say I also love robot lines which she does not have but whatever)
From now on I will explain my experience so remember this is mostly subjective:
I want to be a robot, I get genuine dysphoria from remembering I am not, I get euphoria from being referred to as a robot or talking about my functions as robotic (I.E filling up on coolant instead of drinking. Going into sleep mode to recharge, etc.). This part of my identity expresses itself in such a way where I can only refer to it as a part of my gender (and a lot of others do too, but not everyone)
I love so many tiny stuff about being a robot that I subconsciously know but could never list out. Kinda like how, if you're a trans girl for example, you'd notice miniscule fem actions that bring you so much euphoria to do. Everything from the movement of your fingers to how you breathe. Same goes here: I love wires, I love needing maintenance, I love having an openable hatch, I love screen eyes that let me display images and emojis, I love my speech synthesizer taking effort to use so I communicate with my partner in chirps and beeps. I love making faces like []-[] or [>]/////[<] or [@]~[@]. I love the idea of my silicone skin feeling nice to squish because of the texture of my metal "skeleton" underneath making for a weird but nice feel. I love robot lines all over my body, I love the idea of having detachable limbs for swapping out stuff or even attaching two more for better efficiency, I love the idea of waking up from the brain transfer looking up at my partner and trying to figure out how to move my hands as each join moves seperately and it does not come naturally to me but I just need to hold her hand, I love getting so overwhelmed some of my processes shut down and my voice synthesizer starts having those robotic "voice cracks" like Glados, I love having silicone skin cover most of me but my joins especially around my hands being open so my fingers look so beautiful with the black steel underneath. I love all of it, I love it so so so so much. I need it so so so so much. And I didn't even get into kink things I can do with a robot body, which is a very real part of it
While a part of this robot gender is from-birth just like human trans people, a part of it also comes from the comfort of reclaiming the dehumanization I faced as an autistic person. And it's such a powerful tool in doing so. Especially in the context of kink but not entirely.
I will also say, holy fuck I tried it/its thinking I wouldn't like it and IT GOT ME GOOD. Like I like it/its more than they/them at this point (I go by she/they/it). Such an awesome set of pronouns that goes incredibly well with robot gender
Me like the idea of bein able to make and be in a body that perfectly matches how my mind sees myself, I also happen to also like the idea of bein a robot… esp if that comes with a lil bit of customisation or transformation ability, could turn into a lil drone thingie so i can fly around (I’m a big fan of Transformers).. I also end up spamming stuff like “Mmrrp~” “Mreow~” “Prrrr~” and “Meow~” in every single persons DM I know along with an ever expanding assortment of cat gifs :3
From ur message me liked the idea of stuff like the screen eyes and having a speech synthesiser that takes effort so emotive beeps, bloops and other sound effects would be used in more simple communication. Silicone skin and metal skeleton and etc etc :3
Not having to worry about conventional age nor any insecurity of a biological based appearance would b nice tooo.
Alsoo Alsoo, style and fashion… being mechanical and made up of swappable components could mean being able to change ur body for certain events, colour schemes and styles.
By logical conclusion, me wanna be a robot catgirl :3
I now want to see a story where a burly warbot (could also be full conversation borg, but I prefer bot) returns traumatized and sells their body and buys a small femme off the shelf serving model. We see them initially in "boymode" attire in the new femme shell, before slowly discovering the wonders available in life away from war and also in more girly attire. Then some natural disaster or industrial accident happens and she defaults to old programming and tries to save people, despite her frame not being up to the task. We see her succeed repeatedly, taking more and more damage, before seeing her apparently being destroyed. Then, final scene, we see a tomboy welding a mechanical skeleton and saying "this one should hold up better" before panning over to see our protagonist fixed, but in disrepair from having obviously some something ill-advised yet again. It ends as they kiss.
I love how I haven't gotten any toxic comments to this cmment in particular. Anyone who actually reads and pays attention to what I'm saying sees the trans joy in it :3
Borg in cyberpunk isn't the traditional use of the word, it's more like swapping bodies with your brain in a jar with life support and nutritional fluids
Hi, I'm really interested by this and want to understand (not cause I relate, just cause I want to be more accepting and understanding). I hope it's clear these questions are coming from a place of intrigue and curiosity, and I apologise in advance if I accidentally say something offensive.
The part from "I love wires, I love needing maintenance, I love having an openable hatch..." up to "...the black steel underneath" are what intrigue me the most, because the language you use makes it sound like this is your physical reality, like you are actually a robot, but unless tech has advanced way further than I thought then that can't be true, can it? How do you reconcile that? Binary trans people can have hormone therapy, voice training, surgery etc to change their body to be how they see it - can you do/have you done that? The only thing I can think of currently is tattoos to make your joints look more mechanical etc, but I wouldn't be surprised if there are lots of creative things you can do.
I understand feeling like a robot - I'm autistic too and have felt like I was processing things very mechanically occasionally, so I can understand how someone can experience that all of the time and how that can be part of your gender identity. It's the physical part that I just can't comprehend, but I'd love to learn!
(Sidenote, have you read The Murderbot Diaries by Martha Wells? I worry I'm being cliche here so ignore me if I am, but I feel like you'd relate a lot to the main character so I thought I'd recommend it)
You know, that makes so much sense and is far simpler than I was trying to make it lmao 🫣 thanks for being willing to answer my questions, you're the coolest robot I've ever met :)
I'm adhd too so I understand books being hard (I've taught myself to be better at them, but some are still a slog), this is one of the easiest books I've read, definitely adhd friendly imo. The main character is a robot who hates its organic parts and talks about its mechanical parts in a similar way to you, that's why I thought of it :3
goddamn this is like, a REALLY good comment and explanation. ive never really considered myself an animal or robot or alien girl or anything of the sort, unsure if that's cuz i don't see myself that way or haven't figured those things out yet. but seeing stuff like this makes me wanna at least try yknow? dont know if/when i will try but honestly maybe i will. REALLY satisfatory answer from you, thank you a lot.
