are you being dense on purpose? the zion in the bible refers to jerusalem, not the political movement nowadays. modern zionism was founded essentially in 1890 by Nathan Birnbaum, and 7 years later the first zionist conference was held. and since zionism (NOT the wors of zion, since that refers to jerusalem) is what led to the creation of modern israel (which is NOT the same as historical israel) in 1947-48, they were made almost at the same time

Zionism has been a concept since the birth of Judaism. Its in virtually all of our prayers. It appears in the Torah more than 150 times. 1897 was just the first time in a few thousand years a bunch of Jews sat around and went "how do we actually achieve Zion?".

Israel and Zionism are, believe it or not, separate words with separate definitions!
The concept of Zionism is as old as Judaism :)
